About Nextdata
What is Nextdata?
Nextdata is a data-infrastructure company founded by Zhamak Dehghani, the creator of the "data mesh" concept. Its mission, in the company's words, is to be "dramatically simplifying how the world's largest data organizations create, share, and use data." The team is building Nextdata OS, described as "a data-mesh-native platform built to meet the challenge of decentralizing data at scale" that gives developers "a new way... to work with data and share it responsibly via data product containers." The company's ambition reaches beyond tooling: its stated vision is "to build a world where AI/ML and analytics are powered by decentralized, responsible, and equitable data ownership, across boundaries of organizations, technology, and most importantly boundaries of trust." Nextdata wants to make data products a first-class primitive with trust built in.
Where will I work?
Nextdata is a remote-first company. As the team puts it: "We're remote-first, competitive on compensation and equity, generous with benefits and time off, and respectful of each other's humanity." Remote roles do come with a time-zone expectation — "Plus or minus 3 hours from Pacific time is welcome" — and the company holds "Regular in-person meetings in California," so it suits people who can collaborate on a Pacific-leaning schedule and gather periodically with the team.
What is the Nextdata team like?
This is an experienced, senior team tackling a hard problem at the foundational stage. Roles span engineering, infrastructure, product, and sales engineering, and the company is candid about its early-stage reality while reassuring candidates of its substance: "We are an early stage company, but we don't subsist on ramen! We are an experienced team with families." The four values Nextdata names are "Craft, teamwork, flexibility, and accountability," and engineers "review each other's work, holding each other to an extremely high standard."
Work-Life Balance
Nextdata describes itself as "generous with benefits and time off." Its remote-first model, paired with a Pacific-time-friendly schedule and only periodic in-person gatherings in California, is built around flexibility — one of the company's four stated values. Travel is light for engineering roles; as one listing notes, "In general, travel is not anticipated for this role with exception to regular company-wide events/meetings."
Perks and Benefits
Nextdata backs up "generous with benefits and time off" with specifics. New hires get "$2,000 for your home workspace setup" plus a "company laptop," and "premium health, vision, and dental insurance coverage for you and your family." Compensation packages include "a competitive salary and equity in Nextdata," so employees share in the upside of what they help build.
