What is Morton Fraser MacRoberts?
Morton Fraser MacRoberts LLP — "referred to as MFMac" — is an independent Scottish commercial law firm formed by the 2023 merger of Morton Fraser and MacRoberts. The firm traces its practice "all the way back to 1614": Morton Fraser was founded in Edinburgh in 1829 and Thomas MacRobert established his Glasgow firm in 1861. It now describes itself as "a new style of law firm" giving clients "unparalleled access to one of the largest legal resources in Scotland", with over 250 lawyers covering corporate finance, real estate, employment, litigation, energy, public sector and private-client work.
Where will I work?
Two offices: Edinburgh at 9 Haymarket Square and Glasgow at 60 York Street, serving "the whole of Scotland, as well as clients around the world with interests in Scotland". Where you work from is deliberately loose. The published benefits document states: "We have an agile working policy – we believe our people should be free to choose where and when they work, provided that the requirements of our clients and other colleagues are met." The firm's 2025 gender pay gap report describes "a 'remote first' policy to flexible working", and commits to senior leaders role-modelling it.
What is the Morton Fraser MacRoberts team like?
MFMac says it is "committed to delivering a collaborative and inclusive culture that supports our people to do their best work every day", and that "bringing your whole self to work makes us a better organisation". Work-Life Balance
"Your time is precious, and we encourage a healthy balance between work and your personal life," the benefits document says. Holiday starts at 25 days and rises to 30 after five years; of nine public holidays only seven are fixed, so the other two are added to your own allowance, and each November you can buy up to five extra days. You also get your birthday off. Where agreed, "employees may contractually alter or reduce their working hours to help manage other commitments". Staff can apply for up to two days of organised volunteering a year during working hours, with fee-earners receiving an abatement to their green time target. Family provision is substantial: 20 weeks of fully paid maternity, adoption and shared parental leave followed by six weeks at half pay, four weeks of fully paid paternity leave, and fully paid neonatal leave for up to twelve weeks.
