Founded in 2022 by CEO Ali Ansari (originally as the AI recruiter "Zara" before pivoting to AI data-training), the company has scaled rapidly — passing $100M ARR by late 2025 — and now serves AI labs, enterprises, and robotics teams worldwide.
Where will I work?
Fully remote, worldwide. Micro1 is headquartered at 3000 El Camino Real in Palo Alto, California, but its expert network spans the globe. Roles are open to candidates from any country, and most engagements have no timezone requirement — set your own hours and work whenever it suits you. A small subset of language-specific roles target particular regions (e.g. native English (India) recording specialists), but the platform's default mode is anywhere-on-Earth.
What is the Micro1 team like?
Micro1 operates as a two-sided platform: a small core team in Palo Alto building the matching, evaluation, and payments infrastructure, and a global network of domain experts engaged on a project-by-project basis. The expert network ranges from early-career professionals to PhDs and industry leaders. Onboarding involves an AI-led "Zara" interview to validate your skills before you are matched to projects.
Work-Life Balance
Every role at Micro1 is part-time and hourly. Hours per week vary by project — some experts contribute a few hours a week as side income, others work close to full-time across multiple engagements. Pay is competitive: typical hourly rates run $30 to $135+ depending on specialty, with niche legal, medical, and PhD-level work commanding the highest rates.
There are no fixed schedules, no required meetings outside of project briefings, and no minimum weekly commitment. If your project is done for the week, you are done.
