What is Medium?
Medium is an online publishing platform where writers, journalists, technologists, and creators share long-form essays, technical posts, and reporting. Founded in 2012 by Evan Williams (previously co-founder of Blogger and Twitter), Medium has evolved through several business-model iterations and now runs on a subscription Membership program. Tony Stubblebine became CEO in July 2022 with a refocus on writers, payouts, and editorial quality.
Where will I work?
100% remote — Medium has no headquarters office. The team works from Paris to Portland, with most employees on Pacific or Eastern US time. Async-first practices for engineering and writing; light synchronous-meeting load.
What is the Medium team like?
Intentionally small — ~77 employees as of 2025. Lean engineering, editorial, product, and operations functions. The brand voice has historically prized depth over scale, and the team headcount reflects that.
