About Jisc

What is Jisc?

Jisc says "We deliver the vital digital infrastructure and shared services that inform, protect and promote UK education and research". It is "a not-for-profit membership organisation" that has worked "For 30 years" to transform how knowledge is created, shared and used, and it builds and maintains "critical infrastructure such as the Janet Network, the UK's national research and education network (NREN)", used by "6m+" people every day. Its sector negotiations and shared services "save the sectors annually" "£600m+", and its stated vision is "to lead the UK tertiary education, research and innovation sectors to be pioneers in the use of digital technology and data".

Where will I work?

Jisc lists nine offices: Bristol, Abingdon, Belfast, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Edinburgh, London, Manchester and Newcastle. The Dayforce board gives the location of each posting as "United Kingdom" (one engineer role is titled for Bristol), and eight of the postings explain the pattern in one paragraph: "Specific patterns for working in the office are not mandated, and the frequency of time worked in the office is agreed with your manager. Meeting in person is something we value, so you may need to travel on occasion to any of our hub offices." On 2026-10-19 the board listed eleven postings, among them a cyber threat intelligence analyst, a platform reliability and release manager, a lead data developer and three director-level roles; the postings state no weekly hours.

What is the Jisc team like?

The postings say "At Jisc, every role is meaningful, and every individual is valued", with "a culture of continuous learning and personal growth". Its culture is "powered by our four guiding principles: putting customers first, driving innovation, creating impact, and championing inclusive collaboration to deliver sustainable outcomes and shape a better future". On equity it says "Jisc believe our people make all the difference in cultivating an inclusive culture that welcomes ideas, encourages innovation, and values belonging", and the recruitment text invites people to "apply even if you do not meet 100% of the requirements". Roles sit in specialist directorates such as the Group CTO directorate and the UK Data Service.

Work-Life Balance

Ten of the eleven postings (all but the trustee post) list the leave in one line: "31 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) that includes three closure days over Christmas". With England's eight public holidays that is 39 days a year, and staff can "Buy up to an additional 5 days leave during the flexible benefits window". The postings also offer a "Flexible work pattern, which can adapt to suit your schedules and personal commitments", and say "With a strong focus on work-life balance, we embrace flexible working that prioritises outcomes over hours". Staff can "Support your volunteering with up to 3 days volunteer leave", and there is "opportunity for career breaks".

Perks and Benefits

The benefits list includes "Generous flexible pension schemes", "company paid health care cash plan, mental health first aiders and support", and "Family friendly policies including enhanced parental, maternity and paternity and co-parental leave". For learning, staff get "access to thousands of LinkedIn Learning courses", and for equipment an "Allocated allowance of up to £250 to equip your home office". The postings add "Financial well-being support including access to preferential loan and savings plans, mortgage advice, will writing tools" and "A wide range of discounts and cashback from retailers and big-name high-street stores".
