About iwoca
What is iwoca?
iwoca is a London-based lender to small businesses. Its adverts describe the idea as small businesses needing "finance that's as flexible and responsive as they are" and say the company has "already cleared the way for 100,000 businesses with more than £4 billion in funding". The website lists a business loan from £1K to £1M, a credit card, iwocaPay and a marketplace called manda for buying or selling a business. Wikipedia records that "iwoca was founded by Christoph Rieche and James Dear in October 2011 and began trading in the UK in March 2012", and the About page says the company has grown "from a small start-up to one of the fastest-growing business lenders in Europe". Headcount figures differ by source: the About page says "around 400", the company's April 2025 gender pay report counts 452 UK employees, and a Tech.eu interview from 30 October 2026 says it "employs over 700 staff". The live Ashby board has 55 roles: Customer Operations (13), Strategy and Product (10), Software Engineering and Tech (10), Sales and Business Development (5), Data Science (5), People Operations (4), Credit and Underwriting (3), plus Marketing, Finance and Risk teams.
Where will I work?
The website gives iwoca's address as 1 Bedford Avenue, London WC1B 3AU, and the adverts name offices in London, Leeds, Berlin and Frankfurt. Of the 55 adverts, 36 are in London, 9 in Berlin, 5 in Frankfurt and 5 in Leeds. English-language adverts mostly say "Hybrid in London, United Kingdom"; some add remote within the UK, and the Operations Engineering advert says "Hybrid or Remote working in the UK or Germany." The UK policy page says "We value impact and generally work in a hybrid model" and "Each Team Captain will communicate to their team what the expectations are for office and remote working", so the office requirement depends on the team. One iwocaPay data science advert states "one day per week in office requirement", the Broker Terms engineering advert says "There are no fixed office days", and the Leeds customer operations adverts ask for office days during the first month of training, "with the expectation dropping to once or twice a week thereafter". UK staff can also work remotely abroad for up to 8 weeks per financial year, subject to conditions.
What is the iwoca team like?
The adverts describe a culture built on learning: "At iwoca, we prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support, and invest in the development of our team members." The careers page describes four qualities (Motivated, Smart, Humble, Growth Mindset), calls staff iwocans, and says the team has grown "by almost 30%" in the past year. Teams are cross-functional: the Operations Engineering team, for example, is "three full-stack engineers and one product manager" working with operations, strategy and analytics colleagues. Offices come with "plenty of drinks and snacks" and "events and community-led groups, including running groups, padel, and monthly ping-pong and pool competitions". Twice a year, according to the careers page, iwoca rents houses in places like Sicily and the French Alps "where each team can work together for a week".
Work-Life Balance
"Flexible working hours." is listed under "The benefits" in 41 of the 55 live adverts. It appears across all ten departments, from engineering and data science to people, finance, marketing, credit and customer operations. It is in 35 of the 36 London adverts and all 5 Leeds adverts. The 14 adverts without it are mostly the German-market roles in Berlin and Frankfurt, plus one London engineering advert that says only "Flexible working." The UK benefits-and-policies page adds detail: "Most teams operate a 40-hour working week. Our general office hours are 9 am to 6 pm." For its Tech, Analytics and Product teams it says "We offer the flexibility, for example so that early risers and lunchtime gym-goers are able to organise their day around their preferences", and the careers page says "We champion flexible working in all our teams." No core-hours window is published, and some customer operations roles are fixed: the Leeds Customer Success Advisor advert says "This is a Monday - Friday role working from 9 am to 6 pm." For time off, the adverts list 25 days' holiday plus a birthday day off, the option to buy or sell five days, unlimited unpaid leave and a one-month fully paid sabbatical after four years; the policy page adds bank holidays to the 25 days.
