What is IQM Quantum Computers?
IQM Quantum Computers is a Finnish quantum computing company. Its About page states the mission as "We build world-leading quantum computers for the well-being of humankind now and for the future" and adds that "IQM builds quantum computers from Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum (NISQ) era to fault-tolerant era." The careers FAQ says the stack covers "superconducting qubits, cryogenic systems, control electronics, quantum compilers". The About page counts "450 + Employees 50 + Nationalities" across "12 + Locations", and dates the company to 2018: "In 2018 a group of ambitious scientists took the (quantum) leap to turn their theory to practice."
Where will I work?
The careers page names Espoo, Finland as HQ, with hubs in Munich, Madrid, Paris, Warsaw, Milan, Singapore, Seoul and Tokyo and a US presence. In the 28 live adverts we read on 6 November 2026 (one is the standing open application), 17 list Espoo, 11 list Munich, 4 Tokyo, 3 Edinburgh and 2 South Korea. The careers site tags several of the roles it lists as Hybrid and offers "Work from Helsinki, Munich, Paris, or your home office." Two Espoo adverts say the role is on site: Team Leader, Production ("This is an onsite role. Your place is on the production floor with your team") and Quantum System Implementation Engineer ("This is a full-time, on-site role in Espoo, Finland."). On relocation, the careers FAQ says "We hire to all the locations above and relocate for senior roles, including visa sponsorship and relocation assistance."
What is the IQM Quantum Computers team like?
The Life at IQM page lists "50 + Nationalities 130 + PhDs on Team 88 % Retention Rate". The pitch to candidates is a flat structure: "Flat hierarchy. Direct access. No corporate games." People are encouraged to publish: "Your work becomes publications with your name on them. We encourage papers and conference talks." The site is open about the downsides too: "The pace is real" ("We're racing IBM, Microsoft, a dozen startups. Some weeks are intense.") and "We can't match big tech salaries". The hiring page promises "You apply. We read it. No AI screening. Real humans reviewing real humans."
Work-Life Balance
The careers Join us page puts it plainly: "We care about output, not office time. Hybrid setups and flexible hours." It adds: "We respect your life outside work. High performance only lasts when the rest of your life does too." The same promise runs through the adverts: 24 of the 28 live adverts, across quantum technologies, quantum systems, quantum solutions, operations, business and enabling functions, say "we know sustainable performance only works when life outside work does too—hybrid setups, flexible hours." The Life at IQM page adds "Async communication by default." in its remote-friendly card, which is about communication rather than hours. No core-hours window and no required overlap is stated. The careers page is candid that this sits alongside intensity: "The challenges are real, the pace intense, but so is the trust."
