About Igalia
What is Igalia?
Igalia is "a Free Software consulting firm with headquarters in Spain and an extended network of collaborators from around the world." Ten young software professionals founded it in A Coruña in September 2001, "inspired by their experience in free software", to build "a free software company based on cooperation, innovation, and shared responsibility." It is "a worker-owned, employee-run company". Igalians contribute to widely deployed open source projects: the WebKit, Blink and Gecko browser engines, the Mesa graphics drivers, the V8, JavaScriptCore and SpiderMonkey language runtimes, the GStreamer multimedia toolkit and the Linux kernel. In September 2026 its open positions covered browsers (Chromium and WebKit), graphics, JavaScript engines, the kernel, multimedia and the web platform, where engineers also work directly with standards bodies.
Where will I work?
Wherever you like. Igalia invites people to "join us (telecommuting from wherever you want)", and "Igalians from around the globe participate equally in the management and decision-making process of the company". It provides "a budget to fund a co-working space, or to help run a home office", and holds "annual company-wide retreats to foster in-person connections and team integration." The headquarters are at Bugallal Marchesi 22 in A Coruña, Galicia.
What is the Igalia team like?
The team page lists 173 Igalians. The company runs through a "democratic, consensus-based assembly structure", and "Igalians share responsibilities and receive equal pay." It aims to "grow and maintain the diversity of Igalia itself" and uses "principles of diversity and inclusion to help shape company policy". Mentors help new Igalians integrate and keep developing, and the Igalia Coding Experience programme takes students and people ready for a change of career. "We work together, not compete against each other."
