About If/When/How
What is If/When/How?
If/When/How: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice is a national U.S. nonprofit "legal services and advocacy organization that represents people in crisis, reshapes the law, and builds a network of lawyers working for reproductive justice." The organization "defends and furthers reproductive justice in courts, capitols, and communities," working toward "a future where every one of us has the power and support to make decisions about our bodies, families, and communities, without barriers, coercion or punishment, in safety and with dignity."
Since the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, If/When/How's Repro Legal Helpline (844-868-2812) has provided free and confidential legal services to people across all 50 states and U.S. Territories around pregnancy, birth, abortion, and parenting. The Repro Legal Defense Fund (866-463-RLDF) provides funding for bail or legal fees for people criminalized for abortion or pregnancy outcomes. If/When/How is a unionized workplace.
Where will I work?
If/When/How is fully remote — "If/When/How maintains a virtual office and supports remote working and flexible work days." All roles require employees to be U.S.-based with U.S. work authorization; no visa sponsorship is available. Reimbursements for home office equipment and supplies are available. Some travel is required for staff retreats, conferences and professional development opportunities (regularly, possibly monthly for senior roles).
What is the If/When/How team like?
The Legal Services Team is a 10-person unit working closely with the Legal Services Director on cutting-edge work spanning the Helpline, litigation, and policy. Recent JDs explicitly require "Commitment to social justice and racial justice/anti-racist principles," "Familiarity with reproductive health, rights, and justice issues and frameworks," and a "Proven ability to lead diverse teams." If/When/How welcomes "applicants with diverse experiences, identities, and educational backgrounds." The team operates with internal volunteer committees to "co-create a vibrant, equitable, and collegial work environment."
