About HealthPort

What is HealthPort?

HealthPort is a community behavioral-health nonprofit on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, founded in 1979 and known until 2024 as the Lower Shore Clinic before rebranding to HealthPort, Inc. It delivers multifaceted primary care, mental health, and substance-use treatment to more than 2,000 people across five counties, summed up in its mission to create "Hope, Gaining Mastery, Building Autonomy, Embracing Happiness." HealthPort holds a CARF 3-Year Accreditation, the field's mark of quality for behavioral-health programs.

Where will I work?

HealthPort is headquartered at 208 East Main Street, Suite C, in Salisbury, Maryland, with a network of clinics and day programs serving Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and neighbouring counties across the Delmarva peninsula. Roles are on-site and community-based, delivering direct care across the organization's programs. Beyond its main offices, HealthPort runs residential and crisis services — including "The Retreat" crisis residence, open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — so colleagues work in a mix of clinical, residential and outreach settings close to the communities they serve.

What is the HealthPort team like?

HealthPort employs a team of more than 176 physicians, nurse practitioners, counselors, therapists, administrators and other staff. The clinical breadth is wide: outpatient mental health (including EMDR, neurofeedback, biofeedback and PCIT), addictions treatment with medication-assisted therapy, psychiatric rehabilitation, supported housing, Assertive Community Treatment, vocational support, and specialist services such as Spravato for treatment-resistant depression and a Food is Medicine program. It is a mission-driven workforce focused on building "an organically developmental culture" for the health of the community, with services tailored to seniors and young adults alike.

Work-Life Balance

HealthPort has restructured how its staff work the week, stating plainly that "we now have 4-day and 3-day work weeks." Common patterns include a four-day schedule of nine-hour shifts, plus three-day options at ten- or twelve-hour shifts — giving clinical and support staff longer blocks of time off in a field where work-life balance is hard to come by. Paid time off scales with tenure and schedule, and the organization observes six paid holidays. Long-serving staff also earn a sabbatical — one month off for every seven years of employment.

Perks and Benefits

HealthPort funds medical coverage through a Health Reimbursement Agreement that covers plan deductibles (individual $5,000 / family $10,000), alongside dental — diagnostic, preventive and basic services at 100% and major services at 60% — and a vision benefit. Retirement is supported by a 401(k) with a 3% automatic contribution and an employer match of up to 2%. The organization pays the full premium for $20,000 of life and AD&D cover plus short- and long-term disability (60% of earnings). Staff also have a Dependent Care FSA, an Employee Assistance Program for counseling, and — for eligible clinicians — access to the NHSC Loan Repayment Program.
