About Greenhouse Software

What is Greenhouse Software?

Greenhouse makes hiring software — the applicant tracking system a large share of tech companies run their recruiting on. Its mission is "to make hiring work for everyone", and the company describes itself as "the leader in hiring software", having "led in hiring innovation for 10+ years". Co-founder Daniel Chait is CEO, and TPG Growth and The Rise Fund are investors.

The unusual part, for a job seeker, is that Greenhouse hires on its own product: "At Greenhouse, we live by our mission through using our own product to help us hire the right person for the job, every time." If you apply, you are experiencing the thing they sell.

Where will I work?

"We are a remote-first company and have shared office spaces in New York City and Ireland, and optional co-working spaces that give us flexibility to do our best work anywhere." Live roles are posted for "Anywhere in the United States", Ontario, British Columbia, "Anywhere in Ireland", London, and contract engagements in Argentina. Two things make the remote model concrete: "Work seamlessly between your home office and our optional coworking space membership", and "the benefits of our Global Passport program, so you can enjoy a temporary office from anywhere."

What is the Greenhouse Software team like?

Three core values: "We create belonging", "We act with purpose" and "We work together as entrepreneurs". Employee resource groups are called Arbors — "because in the same way trees provide our environment with oxygen, our Arbors enrich our work with inclusion, diversity, equity and allyship" — and currently span Blackhouse, Fullhouse, Jadehouse, Rainbowhouse, Trellis, Verde and WomenGrow. Leadership runs "monthly company 'All-Hands' and 'Ask Me Anything' meetings" plus "quarterly anonymous surveys so employees can share candid feedback". Hiring itself follows the structured pattern the product exists to support: recruiter screen, department interview, a take-home or coding exercise, then a face-to-face round.

Work-Life Balance

Greenhouse deliberately calls it "life-work balance", in that order: "We support full-time employees wherever they are in the world, so they can show up to work as their best, most authentic selves." Employees "access flexible PTO as well as company holidays to rest and recharge", and the benefits summary describes "generous time off, inclusive of company-wide holidays and recharge days". US job ads add "up to 14 scheduled paid holidays and up to 80 hours of paid sick leave", while Ireland-based staff get "25 days' vacation". Longer service is rewarded with time, not just money: "After seven years at Greenhouse, you'll be eligible for a four-week paid sabbatical."
