About Grafana Labs
What is Grafana Labs?
Grafana Labs is "the company behind the open observability cloud", and by its own account is "founded on the principles of open source, open standards, open ecosystems, and open culture". Its commercial product is Grafana Cloud, "our fully managed observability platform", built around the open-source Grafana project and the wider stack the company maintains in the open — Loki for logs, Mimir for metrics, Tempo for traces and Pyroscope for profiling. Every job advert reports that "more than 35 million users and 7,000+ customers - including Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce - trust Grafana Labs to ensure reliability of their applications and systems", and that the company is "backed by leading investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, GIC, Coatue, J.P. Morgan, CapitalG, and Lead Edge Capital".
Where will I work?
Wherever the company can hire you. Grafana Labs states plainly: "We are 100% fully remote and hold ourselves responsible for outcomes not hours or location", and describes itself as "a 100% remote company with 1,600+ team members across 40+ countries". The careers page adds that "a vast majority of our roles are fully remote", with reimbursement "up to $175 a month for a personal co-working space" if home is not where you do your best work. Roles are advertised country by country, and new joiners get "In-Person onboarding" with their fellow new Grafanistas.
What is the Grafana Labs team like?
Open-source-rooted and deliberately low-ceremony. The published guiding principles include "Default to transparency", "Ship constantly", "Do (and say) the hard things" and "Long-term greedy", and the company names its "mortal enemies" as "bureaucracy, unproductive resistance, stagnation, finger pointing, mediocrity, busywork, assholes, and staying on the sidelines". Employees are Grafanistas, and the culture is described as "high trust, low ego" with "transparent execs who are involved, visible, and human".
Work-Life Balance
Grafana Labs publishes an exact number and repeats it on every job advert: "We operate a global annual leave policy of 30 days per annum. 3 days of your annual leave entitlement are reserved for Grafana Shutdown Days to allow the team to really disconnect." The careers page confirms those 30 days sit "on top of national holidays, parental leave, and sick leave". The policy is global, with the stated caveat that "we will comply with local legislation where applicable". Work is measured in outcomes rather than hours, but nothing published mentions a four-day week, a 32-hour week or compressed hours.
