What is GitHub?
GitHub, Inc. is the world's leading software-development and version-control platform — home to over 100 million developers, 4 million organisations, and 420+ million repositories. Founded in 2008 by Tom Preston-Werner, Chris Wanstrath, PJ Hyett and Scott Chacon, GitHub was acquired by Microsoft in 2018 (for $7.5B) and operates as an independent Microsoft subsidiary. Where will I work?
GitHub is headquartered in San Francisco at 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street with offices in Bellevue WA, Atlanta GA, Boston MA, Dublin (EMEA HQ), Tokyo, Sydney, Toronto, Hyderabad and Munich. GitHub has been fully remote-first since 2020 — most roles can be performed from anywhere in countries where GitHub has a legal entity.
