About Georgetown University

What is Georgetown University?

Georgetown University is a private research university in Washington, DC. Its About page says "Established in 1789, Georgetown is the nation's oldest Catholic and Jesuit university" and that its students, faculty, alumni and professionals are "dedicated to real-world applications of our research, scholarship, faith and service", drawing on "the 450-year-old legacy of Jesuit education". The postings on this page are the university's own administrative jobs on its Workday careers site (careers.georgetown.edu), whose benefits come from the Office of Faculty & Staff Benefits; the time-off figures below are its Washington administration's.

Where will I work?

The administrative careers site held 130 postings on 2026-10-20, 122 of them full-time. By site, 60 were at Main Campus, 18 at the Medical Center, 13 at the Law Center and the rest in named buildings such as 2115 Wisconsin Avenue, with two postings in Qatar and one in Dubai that this page does not list. Titles include "Admissions Manager, Admissions and Marketing Automation - McDonough School of Business", "Manager of Financial Aid Loans and Work-Study", "Presidential Events Senior Coordinator", "Project Manager, ARPA-H funded project/consortium, Georgetown University Medical Center" and "Senior Structural Engineer"; the custodial, trades, security and clinical nursing roles are left out. The board's remote-type field read Hybrid on 59 postings, On Campus on 65 and Remote on 4, so the arrangement depends on the role.

What is the Georgetown team like?

Each posting closes with the same benefits line: "Georgetown University offers a comprehensive and competitive benefit package that includes medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, retirement savings, tuition assistance, work-life balance benefits, employee discounts and an array of voluntary insurance options". The GUWellness program says faculty and staff are invited to "shore up their well-being foundation" through Journey EAP, the Calm app, qigong classes and monthly programming, with "Well Together" seasonal retreats and a "Daring to Thrive" leadership and wellness experience. The Library gives staff "unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning" and free Coursera for Campus courses, and staff have free access to the websites of the New York Times and the Washington Post.

Work-Life Balance

The PTO page says "All eligible administrative employees receive an allotment of PTO according to the designated leave schedule based on position, length of service and number of hours worked", deposited at the start of each fiscal year and prorated for a mid-year start. The schedule is 21 days (168 hours) up to one year of service, rising a day a year to 26 days (208 hours) from year five. New staff also "receive 5 days of paid sick leave" on hire. The FY27 holiday calendar lists 17 days between 3 July 2026 and 18 June 2027, among them Thanksgiving and the day after, every day from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day, Good Friday and Juneteenth. A first-year employee therefore has 21 days of PTO and 17 holidays, 38 days, before sick leave.

Perks and Benefits

The 403(b) Defined Contribution Retirement Plan enrolls eligible staff automatically at 3% and matches up to 5%, then adds "a non-elective contribution of 5% of earnings" after the waiting period, "up to 13% of salary" combined. The Tuition Assistance Program covers 90% of Georgetown tuition for employees after one year of service, with a lifetime balance of 120 credit hours, and extends to employees' children. Paid parental leave is "Up to 8 weeks per event", in one block or two 4-week blocks, for staff with a year of continuous service. Bright Horizons Back-Up Care lets staff reserve "up to seven days" a year of center or in-home care for a child, adult or elder relative at a nominal copay. Medical plans are open to administrative staff hired for 30 or more hours a week and cover dependent children to age 26.
