What is Genentech?

Genentech is one of the founding biotech companies and the world's first to commercialise recombinant DNA technology. Founded in 1976 in South San Francisco, California, Genentech pioneered breakthroughs in oncology, immunology, ophthalmology, neuroscience, and infectious disease — including landmark treatments like Activase (clot-dissolving), Pulmozyme (cystic fibrosis), and human insulin. The company joined the Roche Group in 2009 and operates as a member with strong scientific autonomy. Annual revenue is ~$26B.

Genentech's mission is to discover, develop, manufacture and commercialise medicines for serious or life-threatening diseases. Their pipeline spans targeted antibodies, immunotherapies, bispecific antibodies, and personalised medicines.

Where will I work?

Genentech's primary US site is the South San Francisco campus (1 DNA Way), with additional R&D and manufacturing in Oceanside (CA), Vacaville (CA), and Holly Springs (NC). About 50% of employees telecommute for at least part of the week, and many roles support hybrid arrangements; lab and manufacturing roles are largely on-site.
