About EdTrust

What is EdTrust?

The Education Trust, or EdTrust, is "an equity-driven, data-centered, and student-focused organization with the mission of dismantling the racial and economic barriers embedded in the American education system." For three decades, it says, it "has been the nation's leading voice for education equity", challenging federal and state systems and advocating for students of color and students from low-income backgrounds. Its work spans P-12 policy, research and practice, higher education policy and research, and federal and state advocacy.

EdTrust launched College Results, "the first free, online tool providing graduation-rate data for every four-year college and university in the country", and its 30th-anniversary history says it "helped shape historic policy changes, including FAFSA simplification and the reinstatement of Pell Grants for learners who are incarcerated." Its state teams include EdTrust-West in California, EdTrust-Midwest, EdTrust–New York and EdTrust-Tennessee, with work in Texas, Louisiana and Massachusetts.

Where will I work?

In a hybrid role based at one of its offices: "our national headquarters in Washington, DC, California (Oakland or LA), Michigan, New York (or New Jersey), Tennessee (Nashville), Texas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, and Washington State." Its postings are eligible for telework up to three days a week, and where EdTrust has no office it can, in some cases, pay stipends "to offset the costs of relocation or home office set-up". In October 2026 it is hiring a director of TK-12 policy in Oakland ($124,400–$155,500), a major gifts officer in DC or Oakland, and a digital communications manager in DC ($81,970–$102,460).

What is the EdTrust team like?

The staff page lists about 85 people. "At EdTrust, you'll work shoulder to shoulder with colleagues who share your core beliefs," the jobs page says, among them that "long-standing gaps in opportunity, achievement, and attainment are systemic both inside and outside of schools — but with enough effort and public will, education equity can be achieved." Staff say they joined for "the mission and that it's unapologetically about racial justice." Pay bands are "intentionally broad enough to allow for salary growth without requiring a job or title change", and an annual org-wide retreat brings everyone together.

Work-Life Balance

EdTrust gives "at least 30 days of paid time off annually for vacation and holidays", including "two, weeklong, org-wide, synchronous paid breaks for rest and renewal — one in summer and one in winter", plus "four personal days each year": at least 34 days in all, with sick leave on top. Its postings explain the breaks: "To ensure staff have synchronous opportunities for rest and renewal, the office is closed for a week-long summer break and a week-long winter break." Fundraising roles involve travel and some work outside traditional office hours.
