About Dixons Academies Trust

What is Dixons Academies Trust?

Dixons is a well-established UK school trust running 16 schools and a sixth-form college across Bradford, Leeds, Liverpool, and Manchester. The trust is known for innovative pedagogy and has been an early adopter of teacher-flexibility reforms in UK state education.

Where will I work?

16 academies plus 1 sixth-form college across four cities. Schools include Dixons City Academy, Dixons McMillan Academy, Dixons Trinity Chapeltown, Dixons Brooklands Academy, Dixons Broadgreen Academy, Dixons Music Primary, Dixons Croxteth Academy, Dixons Allerton Academy, Dixons Sixth Form Academy, Dixons Unity Academy, Dixons Pennine Academy, and others. School-based work; not remote.

What is the Dixons team like?

~420 staff including teachers, learning support assistants, leadership, cleaners, facilities, and administration. Active recruitment across teaching roles (Teacher of Performing Arts, Art, RE, Science, Maths, Computing, Chemistry, EYFS/KS1) AND non-teaching roles (Facilities Manager, Programme Manager, Academy Administrator, Cleaning Supervisor, etc.).

Work-Life Balance — 9-Day Fortnight for Teachers

Dixons introduced a permanent 9-day fortnight for ALL teachers in September 2024. Verbatim from their flexible-working page: "At Dixons, we offer a nine-day fortnight for all teachers across our trust to support greater work life harmony."

The policy gives teaching staff one day off each fortnight on full pay, while maintaining full-time teaching for students. The 12-month review showed:

  • 43% reduction in staff turnover
  • 518 fewer sickness absence days
  • 12% increase in applicants

From the trust: "The nine-day working fortnight will continue across Dixons schools in the 2025/26 academic year, with ongoing monitoring of its long-term impact on teacher retention and pupil outcomes."

Important scope note: The 9-day fortnight applies to teaching staff only, NOT to administrative, facilities, cleaning, or other non-teaching support roles. Confirm during application if you're applying for a non-teaching role.

Perks and Benefits

  • 9-day fortnight for teachers (permanent since Sept 2024).
  • Full pay maintained on the reduced-day schedule.
  • Teachers' Pension Scheme.

  • Comprehensive teacher development and progression pathways.
