About Common Future

What is Common Future?

Common Future is "a network of leaders (re)building an economy that includes everyone." Founded in 2001, the organization is anchored as a racial justice organization that "must center equity first and foremost — both in our work and our interactions as team members."

The mission centers on rebuilding an equitable economy through community power, wealth redistribution, and systemic change across the U.S. and Canada. The work spans network-building among leaders, Community Credit Lab programming, and operational support for community wealth-building initiatives.

Where will I work?

Common Future is fully remote within the United States with "a flexible working policy." The mailing address is 2261 Market St., Ste #10410, San Francisco, CA 94114 (operationally HQ'd in Oakland, California). The org models "new ways of working, including a 4-day work week, robust remote work policies, and compensation audits."

What is the Common Future team like?

Common Future operates as a Co-CEO led organization with seven named values: We place equity at the center · We are the communities we serve · We embrace experimentation in the face of change · We expand our thinking to reimagine what's broken · We take a collective approach to solving problems · We model a new way of working. The team frames the workplace as one designed for humans, not the industrial-era "machines" model.

The hiring process evaluates candidates against 6 criteria: Strong Communication · Strategic Thinking · Emotional Intelligence · Understands the Work · Project Management · Relationship Building. The team explicitly invites BIPOC, women, trans, and non-binary applicants — "women, trans, non-binary folks, and BIPOC are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every single one of the qualifications… we would strongly encourage you to apply, even if you don't believe you meet every one of the qualifications described."
