About ClimateWorks Foundation
What is ClimateWorks Foundation?
ClimateWorks Foundation is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charity on a mission "to end the climate crisis by amplifying the power of philanthropy". It connects funders and implementing organizations around the world to create and scale climate solutions across sectors and geographies, and since 2008 it has granted over $2 billion to more than 850 grantees in over 65 countries, working with over 80 funders. Its people describe themselves as researchers, strategists, collaborators and grantmakers, with expertise in climate science, strategic philanthropy, public policy, and social and economic development. Its programmes include the Clean Cooling Collaborative, and in 2023 it received the Stars of STEM award from the Museum of Science in Boston.
Where will I work?
ClimateWorks is headquartered in San Francisco's Financial District and describes "a hybrid work culture and satellite offices". Its current US posting is classed as "U.S. Flexible": the role can be done from anywhere in the US, with a preference for candidates near San Francisco or New York who could work from those offices one to two days a month. Some roles travel, including internationally. On 4dayweek.io we list ClimateWorks' US roles, which is where the leave below applies.
What is the ClimateWorks team like?
Its values are collaboration, humility, curiosity, learning and risk-taking: working across teams, organizations and sectors to grow inclusive networks, staying open to what others know, and taking "smart risks" in pursuit of people-centered climate solutions. Staff connect through retreats, lunch-and-learns, peer mentorship, employee-led affinity groups and team events, and the foundation says it fosters "a culture rooted in inclusion and continuous learning".
Work-Life Balance
The careers page promises "20 to 30 days of annual leave, 14 paid holidays, and sabbatical opportunities". A first-year employee gets 20 days of paid time off plus the 14 paid holidays, 34 days in all, with more leave in later years and paid sabbatical leave for qualifying employees. The hybrid setup and satellite offices are there to let staff "collaborate in ways that fit their lives".
