About City of Menlo Park
What is the City of Menlo Park?
The City of Menlo Park is the municipal government of Menlo Park, California — a San Mateo County city of about 34,000 at the heart of Silicon Valley, incorporated in 1927. Its 17 square miles carry outsized weight: Meta's global headquarters is the city's largest employer at over 12,000 people, Sand Hill Road is the world's most famous venture-capital corridor, and SRI International — the research institute where much of modern computing was prototyped — has been based here since 1946. The city's history runs deeper still: WWI's Camp Fremont trained 27,000 troops here, and Thomas Edison's Menlo Park, New Jersey was named after this one.
Where will I work?
Menlo Park City Hall at 701 Laurel St. The 9/80 is structural: the city's own contact page reads "Hours of operation: Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Fridays from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (closed every other Friday)". Eighty hours over nine days per fortnight, every other Friday off.
What is the City of Menlo Park team like?
A civic workforce in the 200-500 band serving one of the most consequential small cities in America — planning and development around Meta's campus expansion, bayfront parkland (about 7.4 of the city's square miles are San Francisco Bay water), a city library system and full municipal services. We list the city's civilian professional roles; sworn police, dispatch and temporary/seasonal positions run their own schedules and are excluded from our feed.
Work-Life Balance
Every other Friday off, by the building's own published schedule. The city's 2026 benefit summary pairs the 9/80 with classic California-municipal provisions — a CalPERS pension (2.7% at 55 for Tier 1 classic members, 2% at 60 Tier 2, 2% at 62 PEPRA), eleven holidays plus 42 floating-holiday hours a year, and vacation that rises from 88 to 176 hours a year with service.
