About City Lit
What is City Lit?
City Lit is an adult education college in Covent Garden, London. Its history page says "Since we opened our doors in 1919, we have played a significant role in providing opportunities to a diverse range of learners across London", and that it "was one of five literary institutes in the capital". The careers page says "We inspire thousands of students annually with our extensive range of short courses" and that its "influence extends far beyond our Covent Garden base, reaching communities across the country through our dedicated outreach initiatives", working with "various charities and organisations".
Where will I work?
The campus page says "The College is nestled right amongst the cobbled streets and lively markets of the world-famous Covent Garden" and "With most of our classes taking place on-site". The main building is "1-10 Keeley St, London, WC2B 4BA", where "most of our in-person courses take place", and the Kean Street Wellbeing Centre at "9 Kean St" is "A purpose-built centre for delivering our Health and Wellbeing courses". Neither the careers page nor the campus pages state a hybrid pattern or a weekly hour count, so this profile claims none. On 2026-10-19 the College's recruitment board was live but listed no vacancies, so roles will appear there as they open.
What is the City Lit team like?
The College describes its values as "Ambitious, open-hearted & imaginative" and makes a "City Lit Promise" of "a superb 100 year track record". Staff profiles on the careers page include a Head of Universal Skills who joined in 2024, a Student Centre & Library Assistant who is "involved in afterhours clubs", and a Head of Performance Marketing who says "I enjoy my role and being part of a collaborative marketing team". The page adds "City Lit values transparency", and invites staff to "Learn more about their roles, experiences, and what they love about being part of our community".
Work-Life Balance
The rewards list opens with the leave: "35 days Holiday Entitlement (42 days for salaried teaching staff) plus bank holidays". With England's eight public holidays that is 43 days a year for most staff and 50 for salaried teaching staff. The same list includes "Flexible Working" and "Career Breaks", though it gives no detail of either. It also lists "Enhanced Maternity, Paternity, Shared Parental and Adoption Leave".
Perks and Benefits
The careers page lists "Amazing discount on courses, including for your friends and family", an "Employee Assistance Programme", "Free Flu Jabs", a "Gym Discount at Fitness First", a "Cycle to Work Scheme", a "Pension Scheme" and "Life Assurance for Pension Scheme Members". Staff also get "Free access to our library and wide range of resources" and "Free samples of amazing products from leading brands, including drinks, sweet treats and others". Amounts, rates and eligibility are not stated.
