What is Chip?
Chip is a UK wealth app. Its site describes it as "your wealth app", "one easy place for your savings and investments", and its mission, in the job postings, is "to make your life wealthy". It offers savings accounts, a Smart Cash ISA, a Stocks & Shares ISA, a SIPP and investment funds, and it says it started in late 2017 with auto-savings. Chip says it is "authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority", is "trusted by over 400,000 people", and has won Best Personal Finance App at the British Bank Awards in 2022, 2024 and 2025. Its postings add that "The Sunday Times listed Chip as the 6th fastest growing tech company in Britain" and that it looks after "over £6billion in assets". It also calls itself "one of the most crowd-funded businesses in Europe, having raised over £50m from 29,000 investors".
Where will I work?
Chip HQ is in Shoreditch, London. The career site shows ten open roles: eight are hybrid in Shoreditch and two, a Senior Data Engineer ("Remote within the UK") and a Senior QA Engineer, are marked Fully Remote. For the hybrid roles the benefits list says "Work in the office 3 times a week", and there is a "Working Away Policy" that lets you "Work from anywhere outside the UK for up to 90 days".
What is the Chip team like?
The careers site describes "a creative and diverse team of 150" and the three values are "Be ACCOUNTABLE", "Be BOLD" and "Be COLLABORATIVE", which include "Disagree, yet commit to making it happen once a decision has been made" and "Have fun together". The postings say "We want real people. People with interests, perspective and personality." Engineering uses AWS with Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes, PHP/Laravel, Python and Go, with mobile apps in Swift and Kotlin, and describes "a large amount of autonomy to do what is needed to succeed". The hiring process in the postings is a video screen with the Talent team, a video interview with the hiring manager (the COO for some senior roles), a short take-home task for some data and QA roles, and a final interview with a senior leader or team.
Work-Life Balance
Chip lists "28 Days of Holiday", plus public holidays, and its postings add "plus the days between Christmas and New Year". For a UK employee, the 28 days plus the eight bank holidays in England is 36 days a year, before the days between Christmas and New Year. The Working Away Policy allows up to 90 days a year working abroad. Every posting states the same working hours: "Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM" and "Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM", an early Friday finish rather than a shorter week. Wellbeing support is an Employee Assistance Programme with "mental health resources and practical advice" and a fitness benefit for "classes, programs, and personal goals".
