About Chess.com
What is Chess.com?
Chess.com is the home of online chess — the platform where well over 100 million members play, learn and watch, from casual blitz to world-championship coverage. Founded in 2005 and never acquired or IPO'd, it runs one of the internet's great community businesses: game servers handling millions of daily games, lessons, puzzles, streaming shows and the events machine behind chess's modern boom.
Where will I work?
Literally anywhere: 13 of its 14 current openings say it outright — "We are 100% remote (work from anywhere!)" — and its careers page frames the deal: "Work From Anywhere — Set up shop wherever you feel most productive." The team spans 60+ countries. (Depending on your location, employment may be full-time or contract.)
What is the Chess.com team like?
Around 1,100 people — engineers, designers, chess masters, content producers, community and trust-and-safety teams — most of whom genuinely love the game. It's a rare consumer-scale platform still run by players.
Work-Life Balance
Flexibility is the operating system: work from anywhere, asynchronous collaboration across every timezone, and the careers page's own words on rest — "Take the breaks you need, when you need them." We tag Chess.com for its flexible-hours, work-from-anywhere culture; only its location-unrestricted roles appear in our feed.
