About Chainguard

What is Chainguard?

Chainguard is a software supply-chain security company and self-described "trusted source for open source." It delivers hardened, secure and production-ready builds of the open source software that engineers — and increasingly AI agents — rely on, helping organizations build faster, stay compliant and eliminate risk. Its flagship product, Chainguard Images, provides minimal, continuously-rebuilt container images that strip out known vulnerabilities, and its portfolio now spans containers, virtual machines, libraries and packages. Founded in October 2021 by a team of open-source security veterans — the same people behind foundational projects like Kubernetes, Sigstore and Distroless — Chainguard counts Fortune 500 enterprises among its customers and is backed by leading investors including Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins and Lightspeed.

Where will I work?

Anywhere. Chainguard is, in its own words, "a fully remote team, but we stay closely connected." Every open role is remote — the company hires across the United States, Canada, the UK and much of Europe (the Netherlands, Germany, France, the Nordics) as well as Singapore and Brazil. To keep a distributed team aligned, Chainguard runs bi-annual destination summits and offers a monthly stipend for coworking spaces, so you can work from home or a nearby desk as it suits you.

What is the Chainguard team like?

Chainguard lives by a clear set of values: it's "customer obsessed," runs with "a bias for intentional action," and trusts its people to do meaningful work without micromanagement. As the team puts it, "we don't take ourselves too seriously (but we do serious work)" — fitting for a company solving one of the hardest problems in modern software. Salary ranges are published openly on every job posting, and you'd be joining a team of colleagues across engineering, product, security research, design and go-to-market functions.

Work-Life Balance

Chainguard is Great Place to Work Certified (2026), with 95% of employees saying it's a great place to work, and has ranked on Fortune's Best Workplaces in Technology, for Parents, and for Women lists. Time off is flexible — the policy is simply "take the time you need" — and all new parents receive 12 weeks of paid bonding leave, with birthing parents adding another 6 weeks for recovery. A $300 monthly wellness perk and the fully-remote, work-from-anywhere setup round out a culture built for sustainable, focused work.

Perks and Benefits

Chainguard covers 100% of health, vision and dental for employees and their dependents — "no fine print." Equity comes with an unusually generous 10-year window to exercise vested options. The company offers up to $18,000 in lifetime family-planning reimbursement (adoption, IVF, egg freezing, surrogacy), a $1,500 annual professional-development budget, and a $1,750 one-time home-office setup stipend. Add the $300/month wellness perk, a monthly coworking stipend, and twice-yearly destination summits, and it's a benefits package designed for a remote-first, high-trust team.
