In the company's own words, the mission is "to give people the power to reach their destination." It started as "a small team of developers determined to bring trust and transparency to car shopping," and the platform now reaches "tens of millions of consumers" who visit cargurus.com every month, with "~30,000 dealerships" using its products.
The business has expanded well beyond search and listings, "moving the entire automotive journey online" — covering "everything from the sale of an old car to the financing, purchase, and delivery of a new one." Notably for a public consumer-internet company, CarGurus says it has "been profitable for over 15 years," giving the team unusual stability for a growth-stage marketplace.

CarGurus runs a flexible hybrid model. Its headquarters is in Boston, Massachusetts, with an international office in Dublin, Ireland, and select field/remote roles elsewhere in the US. Most open roles are based out of Boston, and the company notes that in-person interviews may be required "particularly for positions based in our Boston and Dublin offices."
