About California Environmental Voters

Who we are

California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters), formerly the California League of Conservation Voters, has been advancing climate policy since 1972. From offices in Oakland, Sacramento, and Los Angeles, the organisation exists "to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action." Today EnviroVoters counts more than 160,000 members across California and publishes an Annual Environmental Scorecard (since 1974) that holds state lawmakers to account on climate, environmental justice, and clean-energy votes.

What we do

EnviroVoters organises voters, recruits and trains climate-champion candidates, and converts election wins into policy wins. Over 50+ years the team has helped elect hundreds of climate leaders — many from communities most impacted by the climate crisis — and advanced dozens of landmark policies cutting pollution, protecting clean air and water, and expanding clean-energy jobs. A sister 501(c)(3), the EnviroVoters Education Fund, supports voter engagement, issue research, and civic education.

Where will I work?

EnviroVoters runs a hybrid schedule of two days in the office each week, with offices in Oakland (HQ at 350 Frank H Ogawa Plaza), Sacramento, and Los Angeles. The hybrid pattern is published verbatim on the careers page: "Hybrid Work Schedule: Two days in the office each week."

What is the EnviroVoters team like?

After eighteen months of research and a pilot phase, EnviroVoters announced an organisation-wide 4-day, 32-hour workweek on 31 October 2023. CEO Mary Creasman framed the move as climate-mission-aligned: "As a global community, we are not going to create a more sustainable future in an unsustainable way… The nature of our work around elections, policy advocacy, and the climate crisis is high stakes and fast paced, with lots of rapid response. To fight against burnout of our team members, we have been exploring ways to innovate how we do things, including these added down times to create balance." The team is intentionally diverse, with equity, justice, and inclusion as stated organisational commitments.
