About Brook

What is Brook?

Brook (brook.org.uk), the trading name of Brook Young People, is the UK's leading sexual-health and wellbeing charity. Registered in England and Wales (charity 703015; company 2466940) and in Scotland (SC045788), Brook works predominantly with under-25s and vulnerable adults through "a unique combination of clinical services, education programmes and outreach" designed to "meet peoples' individual needs and instil positive behaviours that influence their whole lives."

The organisation has expanded beyond its under-25 origins into all-age services and digital healthcare, allowing whole communities to benefit from its "inclusive, non-judgmental approach to sexual and reproductive health." Brook's Chief Executive is Helen Marshall.

Where will I work?

Brook's registered office is Penhaligon House, Green Street, Truro TR1 2LH, with operational sites and clinics across the UK. Current vacancies show roles in Manchester, Southend-on-Sea, Truro, London, Dudley, Lewisham and as fully-remote "National" roles. Flexible working is offered for many roles, "including the option of hybrid working for certain roles."

What is the Brook team like?

Brook is structured around three departments: Clinical Services (doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, sexual health nurses), Education and Training (education and wellbeing specialists, counsellors, outreach workers), and Central Services (admin, business development, digital, HR, quality and workforce development). The careers page features named staff testimonials from across these teams — including Dr Helen Dring Turner (Designated Neurodivergence Lead), Sarah Simons (Participation Manager), Sharon Piller-Argent (Service Coordinator), Rachel Smith (Assistant Director of Quality & Workforce Development) and many more. Brook guarantees an interview "to any candidate with a disability, impairment, or health condition or who is neurodivergent" who meets the minimum criteria.

Work-Life Balance

Brook is publicly a "4 Day Week employer" — and every active vacancy on the careers site carries the badge. After successfully completing the probation period, employees can opt to work 20% fewer hours for the same salary as part of the four-day-week policy. Annual leave is 28 days plus 8 bank holidays, increasing by one day a year up to 33 days. Sickness pay is unusually generous: "Up to 12 weeks' full sick pay, followed by 12 weeks' half sick pay (with additional discretionary sick pay)."
