About Benefact Group
What is Benefact Group?
Benefact Group is a purpose-driven financial services group, founded in 1887 and "proudly owned by Benefact Trust". Its distinguishing feature is where the money goes. The Group markets itself as "financial services that give back", and explains the mechanism plainly: "By earning our customers' continued support, we're able to give all available profits to charities and good causes." It has "given over £250 million since 2014" and in 2023 "became the UK's third largest corporate donor to charity" — a claim its own job adverts repeat: "We are owned by a charity and have been the 3rd largest UK corporate donor over a decade."
This is not a single insurer. Benefact Group is "40+ brands across specialist insurance, broking and advisory and asset management", including Ecclesiastical Insurance, Lycetts, Lloyd & Whyte, SEIB, Lansdown Insurance Brokers, Direct Corporate Risks, Ansvar and Naturesave.
Where will I work?
Benefact House in Gloucester is the global headquarters, and the Group has "2,400+ employees over three continents", with businesses in the UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia. Advertised UK roles are spread widely — Gloucester, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Exeter, Taunton, Eastleigh, Cheltenham and Dublin all appear on the careers board — and the large majority are labelled hybrid, with the occasional fully remote position.
What is the Benefact Group team like?
The Group organises itself around values it abbreviates as CARES: Collaborating, Ambitious, Responsible, Expert and Supporting. Colleagues are pulled into the charitable side of the business rather than just working alongside it. MyGiving is "our colleague driven programme, where our people can directly support causes that are important to them", distributing "over £800,000 to charities and good causes every year". Every colleague receives a personal grant to give to a cause of their choosing — "in the UK this is £200" — and the Group states that "we 100% match all colleague fundraising and payroll giving".
Development is structured. New joiners go through a global Benefact Group Induction, everyone has access to "My Learning, our global learning platform", new managers take the People Leaders Journey, and there are "internships, apprenticeships and graduate programmes" feeding an Early Careers Network.
Work-Life Balance
Hybrid working is offered as standard on advertised roles. Leave is "25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, and a holiday buy and sell scheme", so the entitlement can be flexed up or down to suit the year. The Group also encourages "our people to take at least one day a year to volunteer". Health and wellbeing support sits alongside: private healthcare, income protection, life assurance, access to a virtual GP and an Employee Assistance Programme, plus enhanced maternity and paternity pay for colleagues starting families.
