About Beacon

What is Beacon?

Beacon is a modern CRM platform built specifically for charities and non-profits. Founded in 2017 by Chris and David, two software engineers, the company has grown to support 1,600+ innovative charities around the world — from animal welfare and human rights to disaster relief and cancer support — running their core technology infrastructure on Beacon.

The product approach is unusually opinionated: "At Beacon we take building exceptional software very seriously. In a recent survey by Fundraising magazine we were rated 4.9/5 on functionality and 4.9/5 on ease of use — we want to keep it that way!" The business model is equally distinct — Beacon is profitable, privately owned, and explicitly long-term in goal, with the founders describing themselves as "not making a quick buck for venture capitalists." Tech stack is serverless on AWS + GCP, TypeScript on Node Lambda + Google Cloud Run, with Postgres, Google Spanner, and BigQuery for data persistence.

Where will I work?

Beacon is office-anchored at 4-6 New Inn Broadway, Shoreditch, London EC2A 3PR. The team prefers to be together in person; the JD is direct that "this is not a remote role." That said, flexible working hours apply, and you can work from home when you need to — the company is hybrid in practice, not strictly office-bound, with the office as the default workspace.

What is the Beacon team like?

Beacon is around 20 people across Tech, Customer Success, Sales, and Operations. The team frames itself around six values: always innovating, putting people first, being driven by making a difference, enjoying a challenge, being upbeat and genuine, and listening + taking action. The hiring philosophy emphasises diversity — Beacon operates a banded salary system to ensure nobody is paid differently for the same role, and all salaries across the organisation, including executive pay, are entirely transparent. The company is also certified by Bloody Good Period as an inclusive workplace for team members who menstruate.

Work-Life Balance

Beacon runs a four-day work week — 32 hours, Monday–Thursday, every week, with a 3-day weekend. As the careers page puts it: "Thursday is the new Friday!" On top of the shorter week, the company gives 6 weeks (24 days) of holiday plus UK bank holidays — and pays a £60 bonus for every day of holiday taken to encourage people to actually use it. After 5 years of full-time employment, every employee gets a fully-paid 6-week sabbatical. Modern parental leave is 12 weeks at full pay, identical for every parent regardless of gender or circumstances.
