About Bankjoy
What is Bankjoy?
Its careers page calls it "a Y Combinator and Bessemer Venture Partner backed tech company building technology that helps these community-focused institutions compete digitally while staying true to their mission: serving neighbors, not shareholders". Bankjoy builds digital banking for credit unions and community banks, and its site lists consumer and business banking, online account opening, online loan applications, vertical banking and JoyCompass, a financial wellness tool. Its people page gives the scale: "85+ Client Institutions", "150+ Integrations", "1M+ Members Served" and a "4.8 App Rating". Its story begins in 2014 when its CEO Michael Duncan, "Working at Michigan First Credit Union", saw that community institutions needed modern technology; "2015 Y Combinator Becomes Our Launchpad", and in 2020 "our clients became our investors" in a Series A alongside Bessemer Venture Partners and SoftBank Vision Fund, "making us a CUSO—owned by the community we serve".
Where will I work?
Its careers page says "We’re a remote-first team spread across North America" and lists Vancouver, Calgary, Salt Lake City, Denver, Austin, Detroit, Philadelphia, Toronto, New York City, Montreal, Washington, DC and Los Angeles. An employee quote on the page says "Even though we’re fully remote, the company genuinely prioritizes keeping us connected and engaged, while also encouraging a healthy work-life balance." Its board held 12 postings on 2026-10-14, all remote: seven listed as Canada (a Lead Android Engineer, a Senior Android Engineer, a Senior iOS Engineer, a Senior Full Stack .NET Engineer, a Quality Assurance Analyst, a Technical Product Manager III and the VP of Systems Engineering for Canada) and five as USA (a Director of Partnerships, a Senior Account Executive, the VP of Systems Engineering for the USA, a Senior Human Resources Manager and a Senior Accountant).
What is the Bankjoy team like?
Its core values are "Lift Each Other Up", "Be a Good Human", "Seek Joy", "Lead Today For an Exceptional Tomorrow" and "Honesty is Clarity". It says "We work in small, nimble teams that value autonomy, clear thinking, and getting things done fast. And while we take our work seriously, we also like to keep it joyful—think virtual escape rooms, spontaneous speed meets, and travel stipends to bring us together IRL." Employees on its careers page describe "a really collaborative and supportive culture" and "a company that values life beyond work". Its interview process "typically" has "3–4 stages focused on practical skills and team fit".
Work-Life Balance
Its careers page lists "Generous PTO - 3 weeks (1st year), 4 weeks (2nd year), 5 weeks (5+ years)" and "5 Sick/Mental Health Days", and all 12 postings say "3-5 weeks PTO depending on tenure", "5 health days", "15 holidays" and "End of year shutdown". A first-year employee therefore has 15 days of PTO + 15 holidays = 30 days off a year, rising to 40 from the fifth year, before sick days and the shutdown. It also offers "8 Weeks Paid Parental Leave for Birthing Parents" and "4 Weeks Paid Parental Leave for Non-Birthing Parents". Bankjoy does not publish a shorter working week.
