About Axmed
What is Axmed?
Axmed is a health-technology company that builds a marketplace, logistics software, trade financing and an advisory practice to get medicines and health products to patients in low- and middle-income countries. Its About page describes it as "a social impact health-tech venture and a public benefit corporation, headquartered in Basel with a regional headquarters in Nairobi". The model pools demand from public-sector institutions, faith-based organisations and NGOs and connects it directly with quality pharmaceutical manufacturers. The mission page says "we cap ours at 10%, show every price, and redeploy a percentage of profits into the health systems we serve". The company's own milestone list records incorporation in August 2023, seed funding from Founderful in May 2024 and the opening of an East Africa hub in Nairobi in December 2024. Its careers site shows 2023 as the founding year and 59 co-workers on 6 November 2026.
Where will I work?
Axmed is remote-first. The offer list in four of its adverts says "Work remotely day to day, with hubs in Spain, the UK, Switzerland, Kenya and Ghana that bring Axmates together in person." The headquarters is in Basel, Switzerland (Grosspeteranlage 29), with a regional headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. On 6 November 2026 the careers board listed five roles, each tagged as fully remote: two in Spain (Head of Engineering and AI Engineer), a Head of Quality & Compliance in Nigeria and Kenya, and two Global Health Advisory roles (Engagement Manager and Principal) open in Switzerland, Spain, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Three of the five adverts say the company cannot currently offer visa sponsorship or relocation support, so you need the existing legal right to work in the country where you live, and the Head of Engineering advert says the company is prioritising candidates based in Spain.
What is the Axmed team like?
The careers page calls Axmed "a small, driven team working across the globe" and uses the word Axmates for its people. Its five values are extreme ownership, founder energy, passion for impact, psychological safety with transparent communication, and kindness and compassion. The pace is stated plainly: "We move fast, set a high bar and expect a lot from ourselves and each other", and the careers page asks people to "Execute like the company's survival depends on you". The adverts show how the teams are built. The advisory practice is "a lean team of specialists with roles ranging from analyst to principal, guided by a partner". The Head of Engineering is asked to lead engineers and QA and to "form a leadership triad with our Chief Technology Officer and our Product Lead", and the Head of Quality & Compliance reports to the Chief Operations Officer.
Work-Life Balance
All five live adverts, across technology, advisory and operations roles, carry the same two lines in their offer list: "Flexible working hours : Enjoy the freedom to structure your workday in a way that suits your lifestyle." and "Unlimited PTO : Take the time you need to recharge and maintain work-life balance." No core-hours window, weekly hours, number of leave days or approval process is stated, so ask in the interview how the flexible hours and the unlimited policy work in practice, including for staff in Spain, Nigeria and Kenya. The company also lists paid parental leave without giving a number of weeks. The values pages describe a fast pace and high expectations, so check how the flexibility is used day to day.
