About AVEVA
What is AVEVA?
AVEVA builds industrial software — the engineering, design, operations and data platforms behind plants, grids, water networks and factories. It began in Cambridge in 1967 as CADCentre, "pioneering the use of computer-aided design (CAD) techniques to empower industrial innovation", shipped "the world's first 3D plant design system" in 1976, and "officially became AVEVA in 2001". Ownership is stated plainly on its own site: "Schneider Electric completed its acquisition of AVEVA and AVEVA is now a member of the Schneider Electric group." The careers site sizes the company at "6,500+ employees", "40+ countries" and "20,000+ customers", and says "90% of industrial leaders rely on AVEVA software to help them deliver the essentials of life — such as energy, water, food and medicine".
Where will I work?
AVEVA Group Limited is registered at High Cross, Madingley Road, Cambridge — still the UK centre. Its Workday careers site currently lists UK roles in Cambridge, London and Derry/Londonderry, inside a global board spanning Sweden, India, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the US. Hybrid is the default, and AVEVA is specific about it: "We work in a hybrid way at AVEVA. Most roles are based at a local AVEVA office, with an expectation of being on-site 50% of your working hours to support collaboration and connection." Some positions are fully office-based, and "certain roles that support specific customers or markets may be remote". The benefits page describes the default as "a 3:2 split between the office and working from home".
What is the AVEVA team like?
Engineering-heavy and long-tenured. "Our global team of 2000+ developers work on an incredibly diverse portfolio of over 75 industrial automation and engineering products", with "over 150 patents to our name". The values were written from the bottom up — "Over 1,000 employees weighed in on creating them". Hiring is deliberately human: AVEVA says it looks "to screen in rather than screen out", states "we don't use AI in the recruitment process", and tells applicants who fall short of the spec: "Potential is as important as experience, and the perfect candidate doesn't exist."
Work-Life Balance
AVEVA does not publish a four-day week, compressed hours or a 32-hour schedule, and none of its live UK job ads mention one. Its own wording on time off is simply "You will receive paid time off from work, plus public holidays" — the UK figure appears in job ads as "28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)". Alongside that sit five emergency leave days a year, "to use when unexpected or urgent events make it impossible to work", three days of paid volunteering through the Action for Good programme, and the AVEVAversary scheme, which "rewards you during milestone years with cash and time off".
