What is ABBYY?
ABBYY describes itself as "a global enterprise software company specializing in purpose-built AI solutions for intelligent document processing (IDP) and process intelligence". Its flagship cloud product, ABBYY Vantage, is presented in the job adverts as "a cloud-native, microservices-based product that combines purpose-built AI, OCR, NLP, and direct LLM integration to help enterprise customers extract, classify, and act on data from any document." ABBYY's About page says it has 10,000+ customers, including many of the Fortune 500. The company was founded in 1989, and its contact page gives the headquarters as 11801 Domain Blvd in Austin, Texas, with 13 offices around the world.
Where will I work?
All seven live roles are tagged Hybrid: Senior and Staff Software Engineer (C++) positions in Budapest (Hungary), Belgrade (Serbia) and Warsaw (Poland), plus an Italian-speaking Solution Development Representative role in London. The careers page says "We provide everyone at ABBYY with the option to work remotely or hybrid", and the adverts repeat that remote and hybrid options are offered to fit all lifestyles. The contact page lists offices in Budapest, Novi Beograd and London, but none in Warsaw, and the Serbian adverts mention a brand new office in New Belgrade. The adverts do not say how many days a week are expected in the office, so ask at interview.
What is the ABBYY team like?
ABBYY says it is a global team of 600+ colleagues, with colleagues representing 30+ nationalities. The careers page names three values, Simplicity, Transparency and Respect, and says women represent over 40% of the workforce and more than a third of team leaders. The engineering adverts are for hands-on Vantage platform work: engineers "Design, develop, test, and deploy features and services within the Vantage platform", working with product managers, UX designers and ML engineers. The senior role asks for "More than 5 years of professional software engineering experience with deep expertise in C++", so these are experienced hires rather than entry-level posts. The sales role is an in-house Solution Development Representative position that works alongside ABBYY's Account Executives, and it asks for fluency in English, Italian and Spanish.
Work-Life Balance
The hours policy is stated at company level, in every live advert: "We use flexible hours across most of our teams to allow you to find your own definition of balance." The careers page says the same thing in its own words: "We provide everyone at ABBYY with the option to work remotely or hybrid and build a work schedule that fits their lifestyle through our flexible hours policy." The wording says most teams, so check how it applies to the team you would join, and no core hours are stated. The two Serbian adverts also list flexible working hours among their local benefits. Beyond hours, the adverts mention two paid volunteering days off every year and paid parental leave in all locations.
