Are you an experienced SEO with a knack for explaining expert SEO concepts? In this high-profile position, you will be making a name for yourself as the go-to SEO editorial staff expert for Search Engine Journal, the industry’s leading publication in SEO and digital marketing.

We’re looking for a Senior SEO Editorial Lead to play a crucial role in taking SEJ’s evergreen content from great to next level. This role will be integral to SEJ’s continued organic growth as a respected resource on all things SEO to industry professionals.

The successful candidate must be capable of authoring content and topics on advanced SEO techniques and strategies. You will be interfacing and giving feedback on guest contributor content authored by other SEO experts. You’ll be collaborating daily with our editorial and marketing teams on both our own content strategies and SEO strategies.

To be considered, you must have advanced, up-to-date SEO experience, plus a thorough understanding of Google’s algorithm ( not just keyword research and writing copy).

Skills and Qualifications

  • Deep level of SEO knowledge, and must have up-to-date working knowledge of Google’s algorithm changes and SEO ranking factors.
  • Ability to write clearly and with authority about all things SEO–from on-page to off-page.
  • Solid editorial judgment with the capacity to identify content gaps, and to create, edit, and optimize accurate, engaging, well-written content.
  • Strong and seasoned writing, editing, and copy-editing skills, with careful attention to detail and preferred knowledge of AP style.
  • Ability to summarize articles, call out “takeaways” or actionable next steps for the reader, and identify key challenges or questions in the article which need solutions & answers (for FAQ markup and other template call outs).
  • Understanding of SEO analytics, trends, tools, practices, and measurement, including but not limited to GA, Semrush, Ahrefs, WordPress, Yoast, and others.

Preferred Competencies

  • At least 5 years as a full-time SEO
  • Experience with site audits, schema markup, and other best practices
  • Understanding of the principles of user experience and how it applies to SEO
  • Experience with site content architecture, including the creation of cornerstone or pillar content, content clusters; KW research strategy; and internal linking structure
  • Experience in WordPress
  • Experience working with Google Analytics
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to meet deadlines
  • Great people management skills; manage up to three editorial staffers
  • Assign content briefs to contributors and give feedback as needed

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Create expert-level articles about SEO intended for SEO professionals (not laypersons)
  • Deliver 5 well-researched long-form articles per week that are factually accurate, informative, engaging, and free of typos and grammatical errors
  • Mature professional with the ability to take constructive feedback well and implement it
  • Optimize articles for SEO so that they rank well in SERPs
  • Write SEO-optimized captions for photos, meta descriptions, alt text, etc.
  • Edit and proofread other contributors’ content for SEO accuracy and expertise; plus grammar and typos
  • Refreshing or rewriting existing content to rank in SERPs and to ensure it is accurate, up-to-date, and an expert treatment of the topic
  • Adhere to SEJ editorial and style guidelines

Status: Full-Time | Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 | Location: Remote
