About the role

About the role

Hopper Technology Solutions (HTS) powers travel for some of the world's largest brands through our APIs, white-label products and fintech offering, and every dataset we hold tells a story that our partners need told clearly, regularly and quickly. As a Senior Data Scientist at HTS, you will own the analytical relationship with a portfolio of partners and build the mechanisms that answer their questions about inventory health, pricing competitiveness and performance the first time, then answer them every week. You will be evaluated less on the sophistication of your models than on the ability of the people you work with, at Hopper and within our partners' commercial teams, to make better decisions thanks to you.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Take ownership of the analytical relationship with a portfolio of HTS partners, working alongside Partner Success and Commercial teams to understand their needs, meet them and present results directly to their teams

  • Design and standardize recurring reports on inventory health, pricing competitiveness and tenant performance that adapt to hotels, flights, vacation rentals and cars without having to be rebuilt each time

  • Use AI assistants and agents, as well as code generation tools, as everyday collaborators to automate repetitive parts of analysis and reporting, and help the whole team adopt the same practices

  • Frame and conduct exploratory analyses that deepen our understanding of partner and traveler behavior, and translate your findings into clear recommendations for product, engineering and business leaders

  • Apply machine learning and statistical methods to large, messy datasets when they make a real difference, and recognize when a simple, well-explained metric is the best answer

  • Create dashboards and self-service reports in BigQuery, Looker, Tableau, Amplitude and Google Sheets, with the aim of making yourself unnecessary for routine questions

  • Work closely with product and engineering teams so that the data we collect supports the questions our partners will ask next

The ideal candidate has

  • A degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, economics or another quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of answering complex questions using data across more than one domain or product range

  • A demonstrated ability to turn complex technical work into simple, credible stories for non-technical and executive audiences, including external partners

  • Comfort interacting with partners: presenting findings, answering tough questions live and building trust with commercial contacts

  • Strong SQL skills and experience with modern data warehouses such as BigQuery, plus mastery of Python and Pandas or R for large-scale data preparation and analysis

  • Daily, hands-on use of large language model tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Copilot for writing code, SQL, analysis and documentation, and a perspective on their strengths and limitations

  • Experience designing or deploying automated and agentic workflows, from scheduled pipelines to LLM-driven report generation and prompt or skills libraries, that turn one-off analyses into reusable products

  • Experience in data mining, machine learning and statistical modeling, and the judgment to know when to use them

  • Experience with business reporting and experimentation tools such as Tableau, Looker or Amplitude

  • A strong preference for simplifying, standardizing and delivering rather than perfecting

  • Experience in the travel industry in lodging, air, vacation rentals or car rental, or within a marketplace, B2B platform or API distribution company, is an asset

  • Experience with geographic data in search, filtering or recommendation, or with external clients in a consulting, solutions or customer analytics role, is an asset

Employee benefits

  • A well-funded, proven startup with great ambitions, competitive salary and the benefits of a pre-IPO equity plan

  • Hopper covers 100% of group insurance plan premiums

  • Hopper offers life, short-term disability and long-term disability coverage

  • A health spending account that covers eligible medical and dental expenses

  • All employees and their dependents have access to Dialogue telemedicine services, anytime, wherever you are

  • All employees have access to an RRSP with automatic pre-tax deductions from each paycheque

  • Ask us about our very generous parental leave, well beyond industry standards

  • Unlimited vacation

  • Carrot Cash travel allowance

  • Access to on-demand coworking space through FlexDesk, and a remote work allowance

  • An entrepreneurial culture where pushing limits and taking risks is part of everyday life

  • Open communication with management and company leaders

  • Small, dynamic teams, considerable impact

About Hopper

At Hopper, we're building the world's leading travel technology platform, and we do it by solving real problems for real travelers around the globe. Our Hopper consumer booking platforms and HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions), our B2B division, work together to offer travelers what the industry has never reliably offered: transparency, flexibility and real savings on every trip. We combine huge volumes of data and artificial intelligence with exclusive fintech products to get there, not simply another booking engine, but a fundamentally better way to plan and experience travel, for our customers as well as our partners.

And we keep growing fast! The Hopper app has been downloaded more than 120 million times, and 70% of our users are Gen Z and Millennials, the next generation of travelers. Today, our biggest opportunity is powering travel fintech, commerce and loyalty for some of the largest brands in the industry. Our first HTS partnership, with Capital One, helped launch a dedicated travel portal for a major financial brand's cardholders, and we have since expanded across some of the biggest names in travel and finance, including Air Canada, Uber, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and Nubank, powering everything from a simple fintech integration to a complete end-to-end travel loyalty portal.

Here is our trajectory: we started as a small disruptive app in the travel space, and today we are the engine powering how travel technology works.

Here is what that means in practice:

  • Billions of dollars in travel and travel fintech products move through Hopper and HTS every year.

  • Our fintech products, including Cancel for Any Reason and Disruption Assistance for Any Reason, achieve exceptionally high customer satisfaction because the terms are clear and resolutions are instant, no questions asked.

  • Nearly 30% of app customers add a fintech product to their booking, and these customers are 1.6 times more likely to book with us again.

  • HTS now accounts for more than 90% of the company, proof of how quickly B2B has grown.

  • Through HTS, any travel provider (airlines, hotels, banks, travel agencies) can integrate the company's fintech, commerce and AI solutions into its own channels, whether that's a simple integration or a complete end-to-end travel portal.

Come take flight with us!

As a Senior Data Scientist on HTS you will own the analytical relationship with a portfolio of partners and build the machinery that answers their questions about supply health, pricing competitiveness and performance once, then answers them every week. You will be judged less on the sophistication of your models than on whether the people you work with, inside Hopper and across partner commercial teams, make better decisions because of you.

What would your day-to-day look like

  • Own the analytical relationship with a portfolio of HTS partners, working alongside Partner Success and Commercial to understand what they need, deliver it, and present it directly to their teams

  • Use AI assistants, agents and code generation tools as everyday collaborators to automate the repetitive parts of analysis and reporting, and help the broader team adopt the same practices

  • Frame and run exploratory analyses that deepen our understanding of partner and traveler behavior, and translate what you find into clear recommendations for product, engineering and business leaders

  • Apply machine learning and statistical methods to large, messy datasets where they move the needle, and recognize when a simple, well explained metric is the better answer

  • Build dashboards and self serve reporting in BigQuery, Looker, Tableau, Amplitude and Google Sheets, with an eye toward making yourself unnecessary for routine questions

  • Partner closely with product and engineering so the data we collect supports the questions our partners will ask next

  • Comfort being partner facing, presenting findings, fielding tough questions live and building trust with commercial counterparts

  • Deep SQL skills and experience with modern data warehouses such as BigQuery, plus fluency in Python and Pandas or R for large scale data preparation and analysis

  • Hands on, daily use of LLM based tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Copilot for writing code, SQL, analysis and documentation, and a point of view on where they help and where they fall short

  • Experience building or deploying automated and agentic workflows, from scheduled pipelines to LLM driven report generation and prompt or skill libraries, that turn one off analyses into repeatable products

  • Experience with data mining, machine learning and statistical modeling, and the judgment to know when to reach for them

  • Experience with business reporting and experimentation tools such as Tableau, Looker or Amplitude

  • A strong bias toward simplifying, templatizing and shipping over polishing
