Title: Director, Global Value & Access Strategy(Endocrinology)
Background and Job Description:
Vertex operates at the forefront of scientific innovation and has successfully developed and commercialized multiple breakthrough medicines for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) as well as CASGEVY, a gene therapy for sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia, and JOURNAVX, a first-in-class treatment for moderate-to-severe acute pain. Vertex has more than a dozen ongoing research programs focused on the underlying mechanisms of other serious diseases including programs in B cell mediated renal diseases, APOL-1 mediated kidney disease (AMKD), chronic pain and DM-1, and cell therapies for Type 1 diabetes, among others.
Overview:
Market Access is a key commercial function that ensures transformative Vertex therapies are appropriately funded and ultimately make it into the hands of the patients around the world. The Global Value & Access Strategy (GVAS) team works cross-functionally and across regions to ensure the payer view is represented in commercial and development plans across the lifecycle. We are driven by a desire to deliver groundbreaking pricing & reimbursement solutions to allow our medicines to reach patients faster than ever before.
The Director, Endocrinology role will focus on the assets atumelnant and Palsonify (paltusotine).
The individual will be responsible to ensure global access launch readiness for atumelnant as a potential first-in-class therapy for the potential treatment of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH).
Additionally, the individual will provide targeted global P&MA support for the commercialization of Palsonify (paltusotine) for the treatment of acromegaly, including LCM initiatives, strategy and governance.
The role reports to the Executive Director, Global Value and Access Strategy (GVAS).
Key Responsibilities:
Atumelnant for the potential treatment of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)
· Responsible for Global payer strategic planning to support value and access optimization for atumelnant as a potential first-in-class therapy for the potential treatment of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH).
· Partner cross-functionally and cross-regionally to develop and formulate global commercial strategic recommendations with aligned commercial input.
· Develop global P&MA strategy and pricing policy underpinning the global launch of atumelnant in CAH.
· Develop compliant strategies to support and enable global patient access to atumelnant prior to the conclusion of formal reimbursement agreements, where permitted.
· Lead cross-functional initiatives to secure timely payer scientific advice in key global geographies to inform payer evidence generation planning.
· Provide high-quality access input to broader atumelnant global evidence generation strategies in collaboration with cross-functional partners to ensure that access is optimized globally.
· Develop and rollout global payer unbranded message platform in alignment with cross-functional initiatives to support payer disease awareness and market development in CAH.
· Develop high-quality payer value communication materials to optimize the potential global access launch of atumelnant in CAH (including branded payer value narrative, rollout and training, price messaging, pricing objection handler)
· Ensure that atumelnant LCM initiatives and potential future indications are optimized for access.
· Represent GVAS and embed the global payer perspective in cross-functional atumelnant operating teams and workstreams as relevant.
- Support P&MA capability building and thought leadership projects that advance knowledge of and readiness for the rapidly evolving Global payer environment
· Maintain industry awareness and proactively address changes in market trends, competition, product acceptance and new product releases and adjust Market Access plans accordingly
Palsonify (paltusotine) for the treatment of Acromegaly
· Support ongoing global commercialization efforts and reimbursement negotiations for Palsonify, including negotiation strategy, financial considerations, identification and prioritization of evidence required to sustain value over time.
· Support global P&MA governance including input to price policy, governance framework and negotiation business cases.
· Responsible to ensure that payer perspective is embedded in ongoing LCM initiatives including input into development strategy, evidence generation and commercialization priorities.

Qualifications:
- 8+ years of direct biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry experience and/or payer experience
- Deep working knowledge of both US and ex-US healthcare systems required; experience in comparable Global role considered a plus
- Experience in specialty and/or rare disease access models preferred
- Experience in leading cross-functional teams required
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and make sound pricing and market access recommendations
- Entrepreneurial, energetic, dynamic, enthusiastic, decisive, and self-motivated; possesses a sense of urgency with the ability and strong desire to "make things happen"
- Strong practical, quantitative and analytical skills combined with a sound understanding of how to successfully apply pricing & reimbursement / HEOR principles to support Vertex
- General experience in commercialization and drug development
- Exhibits outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively write and deliver presentations to professionals at all levels within Vertex
- Demonstrated relationship building at all levels of the organization and across geographies
- Recognized as a team player with excellent interpersonal skills who is flexible and reliable

Education:
- BA/BS in field of study requiring quantitative analysis; advanced degree preferred

Pay Range:
$212,000 - $318,000

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
