About Yelp
What is Yelp?
Yelp's mission is to "connect people with great local businesses." The careers site calls Yelp "a remote workplace where your work makes a difference, you are seen as a whole person, and you can grow." The product is built around millions of community-contributed reviews of restaurants, boutiques, salons, dentists and almost every other type of local business. Yelp is publicly listed on NYSE as YELP and was founded in 2004.
Where will I work?
Yelp's corporate headquarters are at 140 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco, with offices and team hubs across North America and Europe — specifically Canada, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States. Yelp operates a remote-first model: "Our remote work model allows our folks to live where it makes sense for their lifestyle and build a rewarding career that will grow along with them."
The careers page makes the philosophy explicit: "We believe autonomy promotes productivity and success, and flexibility means we can build a rewarding career while enjoying an enriching life outside of work."
What is the Yelp team like?
The Yelp culture is captured in five values that have stayed constant since founding: Be tenacious ("battle smart and fight 'til the end"), Play well with others ("treat others with respect"), Be unboring ("creativity over conformity"), Protect the source ("community and consumers come first"), and Authenticity ("tell the truth").
The careers stories include Angelina, a Local Sales Manager who rose from no prior sales experience to two President's Club awards and four promotions; Doni, a Lead Product Designer who co-leads BlackBurst, an employee resource group for the Black community and its allies; and Markelle, an Account Executive promoted just three months into his Yelp career.
Work-Life Balance
Yelp's benefits page frames the offering as "five-star benefits and perks." The package includes paid time off and a "wellness" allocation, plus dedicated mental-health support. Yelp is also open to 4-day-week applications at proportional salary (32 hours/week) on many roles.
Perks and Benefits
The US benefits stack includes medical, dental and vision coverage, a wellness reimbursement benefit, FSA and HSA savings accounts, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401(k) and Roth 401(k) plans, student loan refinancing, supplemental and disability insurance plans, legal services, work-from-home reimbursement and travel reimbursement for restricted medical care. Family benefits cover caregiver support and adoption assistance, and Yelp invests in career development with "ongoing learning… designed to grow with you for life."
