About XWP

What is XWP?

XWP is a full-service WordPress agency that builds enterprise-scale solutions for the world's biggest publishers, brands, and platforms. Founded in 2014 as part of the X-Company portfolio, XWP has spent over a decade contributing back to the WordPress core and operating as one of the highest-tier WordPress VIP partners worldwide. Verbatim from the about page: "XWP is a leading full-service WordPress agency, trusted by the world's biggest brands to achieve their digital goals."

The company history is unusually well-documented for a remote agency. In 2016, XWP finalized "the largest CMS migration in the southern hemisphere" for News Corp Australia, moving more than 90 brands to WordPress over more than a year. In 2017, XWP joined forces with Google to build and launch AMP for WordPress, the plugin that improved performance on more than 2 million sites. In 2018, XWP migrated more than 250,000 Rolling Stone articles, images and media files dating back to the 1960s to WordPress. In Q3 2022, XWP won the WordPress VIP Partner Innovator award for the Parse.ly plugin work. In 2023, XWP gained Great Place to Work accreditation — 92% of employees agree, against a 57% US average. In 2024, XWP became the first WordPress VIP agency partner to win both Gold and Partner Innovator Awards. The company is also a founding member of The Scale Consortium and contributes 5% of team time via Five for the Future.

Leadership (verbatim from about): Dave Rosen (Founder), Myles Lagolago-Craig (CEO), Alexandra Ungureanu (CSO), Nicola (Nici) Catton (CDO), Sharon Logan (Fractional COO).

Where will I work?

XWP is 100% remote globally. Verbatim from the FAQs: "By offering 100% remote work, we provide opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds, including those in economically disadvantaged areas, parents, carers, and neurodiverse individuals. Our hiring process focuses on values alignment and removes potential biases such as formal degree requirements, photos, and age-related information." The team spans different time zones and uses asynchronous communication as the primary collaboration mode. New employees are onboarded by named People Advocates who provide 1-on-1 support, with structured monthly calls, role-specific meetings, and weekly updates.

What is the XWP team like?

XWP runs four strategic pillars (verbatim): Customer experience, Leadership, Expertise, and Team Experience. The hiring philosophy explicitly removes credential-based barriers: "Access to higher education and certification isn't equal around the world, and we aim to provide an equitable workplace where diverse talents can thrive." Strong communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are the primary criteria. Named clients include Google (Alberto Medina), PMC (Gabriel Koen), SpaceNews (Greg Thomas), Australian Geographic (Liz Ginis), Cowgirl Magazine (Ken Amorosano), and Pantheon (Sarah Fruy). XWP also runs WP Includes — a mentorship programme matching senior leaders with women in WordPress, running twice a year.

Work-Life Balance

The centerpiece benefit is the Unleash+ programme: "We offer a yearly allowance of $2,500 to enrich your life. There are several categories of expenses, each meant to help support your wellbeing and work/life harmony." Five named example categories — Growth-minded (conference tickets, online courses, books, tuition), The explorers (camping, accommodation, Ubers for outdoor or city exploration), The well-being warrior (massages, meditation apps, medical appointment fees, therapy), The art of ergonomics (work-setup gear), Give from the heart (gifts, charity, sponsor local sports team) — sit alongside more than 50 total categories.
