About Wicked Joe Organic Coffees

What is Wicked Joe Organic Coffees?

Wicked Joe is a family-owned and operated organic coffee roastery based in Topsham, Maine. Since being founded in 2003 by Bob and Carmen Garver, the company has built its identity around three values: Quality, Community and Sustainability — sourcing organic beans through long-lasting partnerships with organic farmers around the globe and roasting them at its Maine facility. The tagline is "Responsibly Grown, Wickedly Roasted".

Wicked Joe ships coffee and tea directly from the roastery via its e-commerce store (free shipping on US orders over $75). The brand also operates as a wholesale supplier and offers subscription services. Products are sold in 12 oz. retail bags (processed via the Fresco machine), 5lb. wholesale bags and through frac and bagging operations, with multiple roasting lines.

Where will I work?

Wicked Joe is a fully on-site operation at its roastery and processing facility at 35 Canam Drive, Topsham, ME 04086. Customer service is available 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Thursday.

What is the Wicked Joe team like?

The "Wicked Crew" is a tight-knit operational team. Production Manager Laurel is "responsible for checking the needs and due dates of coffee orders to make sure they are getting processed and completed, all according to our SOPs", and helps lead training of new hires. Jason runs the Fresco machine that processes "almost all of our Wicked Joe 12 oz. bags", coming in early to warm the machine up. Tina leads the frac and 5lb. bagging area, with the longest tenure on the team, prepping, grinding and packaging coffee daily for wholesale customers while running quality control. Roaster Noah manages individual roast samples, lot numbers and distribution — "There is a science and a type of art that goes into each roast."

The company describes itself as "committed to growing our team with the same values we started with; Quality, Community and Sustainability, supporting the individual development of our staff as we expand."

Work-Life Balance

Wicked Joe operates on a compressed work week: "Currently, our team works 10 hour days from Monday through Thursday. This enables our crew to have a three day weekend and allows for a consistent schedule for life outside of work and healthy work-life balance." The 4-day, 3-day-weekend schedule is supported by paid lunch and break time, monthly "Wicked Crew" lunches, and fitness-room access at the facility.
