About University of Oklahoma
What is the University of Oklahoma?
The University of Oklahoma (OU) is a public research university in Norman, Oklahoma, with campuses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Its About page says "Founded in 1890, the University of Oklahoma was actually established 17 years prior to Oklahoma's statehood" and "The University of Oklahoma is the state's flagship university. OU is a major, public Research university that gives students the feel of a private college atmosphere." The homepage invites readers to "See our beautiful campuses in Norman, Tulsa and Oklahoma City", and the Oklahoma City campus "has been named the Harold Hamm Health Campus at the University of Oklahoma". This profile covers the salaried, benefits-eligible staff postings on the university's jobs site, not its faculty, hourly or temporary ones.
Where will I work?
The jobs site's staff board ("Search Page - Staff") lists roles on the Norman, Oklahoma City and Tulsa campuses, and this page lists the salaried ones whose posting says "Benefits Eligible: Yes". Postings read on 2026-10-20 include a "Financial Systems Analyst" for the Health Campus at "Targeted pay up to $72,500 annually, based on education and experience", a "Senior Data Analyst" at "Targeted annual salary of $75,000, depending on experience", an "Equity Compliance Investigator" at "Targeted pay up to $65,000, depending on experience", a "Senior Training Coordinator" in Tulsa at "Targeted salary up to $60,400 annually, based on experience" and an "Academic Advisor" at "Targeted pay up to $43,000, depending on experience". The usual schedule line is "Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m." The postings are campus-based and say nothing about remote or hybrid work, and the three that name a remote location, with no state or country, are not listed.
What is the University of Oklahoma team like?
The university's Office of Human Resources "advances the University of Oklahoma's strategic priorities by investing in people and supporting the One OU vision". Its well-being page describes a culture "Inspired by our purpose, We Change Lives, and rooted in our core values of Excellence, Opportunity and Success, Boldness, Freedom of Expression and Civility, and Civic Commitment". Learning and Organizational Development says "we are committed to supporting the learning and development of employees across all three campuses", and "OU offers a wide variety of workshops from retirement planning to team collaboration to health and wellness, all at no cost."
Work-Life Balance
"PTO is a combined leave bank of time for all approved time off, including vacation, personal time, bereavement, personal illness, and illness of a family member." It is open to "staff and 12-month faculty who hold benefits eligible appointments". "All Other Staff" earn "27 days (216 hours)" a year in months 0-60 of service, "30 days (240 hours)" from the sixth year and "33 days (264 hours)" after ten, with a maximum accrual of "42 days (336 hours)". The 2026-27 holiday schedule closes the university for "Independence Day - July 3, 2026", "Labor Day - September 7, 2026", "Thanksgiving - November 26, 27, 2026", "Winter Break - December *23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31, 2026 and January 1, 2027" (where "*December 23, 2026, is administrative leave"), "Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - January 18, 2027", "Memorial Day - May 31, 2027" and "Juneteenth - June 18, 2027": 14 paid holidays. A new full-time employee therefore has 27 PTO days and 14 holidays, 41 total days, in one bank that also covers sick days. "Administrative Leave is used on timesheets when a benefits-eligible employee misses scheduled work due to delayed openings, early closures, or full-day closures on their campus." Paid parental leave grew in 2024 with "the expansion of this benefit to six weeks of paid leave", for employees with "at least one year of continuous, benefits-eligible employment".
Perks and Benefits
"For benefits-eligible employees, the university's contribution to your core benefits (medical, dental, life, and AD&D) is called Sooner Credits." "Full and part-time employees classified to work between 20 and 40 hours per week are eligible for benefits." "OU offers two plans through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBS)", a PPO and a high-deductible plan with a health savings account, "OU offers BlueCare Dental from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, available in a Basic Plan and an Alternate Plan", and "VSP offers a standard vision plan and a premium vision plan". New employees "choose the 9% employer-paid defined contribution plan" or the Oklahoma Teachers' Retirement System, and the retirement page says "OU's official record keeper is Fidelity Investments". The tuition waiver "waives one half of tuition and several fees for up to 6 hours per semester or 3 hours per summer session" for full-time employees, and the dependent child waiver "covers the full cost of resident tuition, excluding associated fees" for employees "with at least 0.75 full-time equivalency (FTE)". "Neither you nor your family members will be charged for the assessment and referral service you receive from the EAP", and "The University of Oklahoma offers a robust well-being program, focusing on the eight dimensions of wellness".
