About Tusko
What is Tusko?
Tusko is one of the UK's leading video production companies — a "fully integrated" purpose-driven creative agency that creates bold, eye-catching films, web design, and digital marketing campaigns. Trading as Tusko Films Ltd (Company Number 10528132), Tusko works globally but is rooted in Bristol and London. They describe themselves as "content creators who became an agency", and their mission is to work with disruptive brands and organisations to draw attention to issues that need to be spoken about — the "elephant in the room."
Tusko's clients include NHS, WaterAid, Global Witness, Mental Health UK, Open Bionics, TEDx, Mitie, Inked Magazine, and The Architecture Centre. The agency has won 13 awards to date, including a Royal Television Society Award for "Women Lifers: Pennsylvania's women serving Life Without Parole". They also achieved B-Corp certification at the beginning of 2022. Tusko operates on a "people, planet and profit" model.
Where will I work?
Tusko has two UK offices: 74-80 City Rd, Bristol BS2 8UH and 102 Winchester Road, London TW1 1LB. Their model is "a core team, and a hub of highly skilled, cherry-picked partners" — a small core with a flexible network of cherry-picked freelancers, allowing them to "stay agile, lean and responsive to the latest and greatest developments and industry trends." Hiring enquiries go to [email protected].
What is the Tusko team like?
Tusko's approach to team-building is distinctive: "instead of having a rigid creative team with exclusive roles like Art Director and Designer, we create 'herds' of diverse creative talent. Their background and experience are best fitted to the needs of the project or campaign. They bring backgrounds ranging from advertising, branding, UX, design, Film and TV production and distribution." The agency actively encourages its team and partners to expand their skills, strengthening the "herds" and the work itself. The co-founders met on an "arty-farty filmmaking undergrad course" and built Tusko around tackling stories that need to be told.
Work-Life Balance
In their own announcement post, Tusko writes: "We're ready to announce that Tusko is now operating on a 4 day work week (Monday-Thursday). Not only will our entire team have a whole extra day every week to simply exist, free from the demands of working life." The transition followed the UK 4-day-week pilot model (100% pay for 80% of working hours, with 100% productivity). Tusko explicitly cites four reasons for the move: enhanced creativity (creative thought occurs more frequently in a state of relaxation), avoiding burnout (a huge organisational cost), less 'dead time' (a piece of work that might take 8 hours can take 4 with a deadline), and creating a business in line with their values as a B-Corp.
