What is Truii?
Truii is a Brisbane-based technology company that creates web apps to support data-driven planning and reporting, with a particular focus on the environment. The team — scientists, data visualisation experts, designers, software engineers and web developers — is dedicated to improving data-driven decision-making by business and government.
Truii's approach is to make the most complex problems seem simple, by creating fit-for-purpose web apps that prioritise the user experience. Product lines include the Natural Capital Suite (web apps for environmental and social outcomes), data-driven reporting tools, Great Barrier Reef accountability platforms, environmental water modelling and reporting, and land assessment and management systems. The Truii Conversations podcast series brings in voices from across natural capital, environmental economics, NRM, and agribusiness — featuring guests like environmental economist Jim Binney, Chris Norman of NRM Regions Queensland, and Natalie Hick of Natcapco.
Where will I work?
Truii is headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland with a small Australian team. Per the company's own 4-day-work-week announcement, Truii operates a hybrid schedule: the whole team works from home on Tuesdays and Fridays, while Brisbane-based staff come into the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The company is closed on Mondays.
What is the Truii team like?
Truii is a team of 14, led by co-founders Nick Marsh (Managing Director) and Bonny Marsh (Chief Operating Officer). The leadership group includes Tory Grice (User Experience Lead), David Waters (Natural Capital Lead), Nyssa Henry (Reef Lead), Robin Ellis (Modelling Lead), and Thomas Maalem (Engineering Lead). The wider team blends senior software engineers and computational specialists (Zach Marsh, Tom Lynn, Lauchie Harvey), a Digital Designer and Communications Manager (Natasha Venz), and three Data Wranglers (Reuben Marsh, Zoe Waters, Amelia Waters). Work-Life Balance
In November 2023, after a successful six-month trial, Truii officially adopted a four-day work week, following the 100-80-100 model: 100% pay for 80% of the hours, with 100% business efficiency. Truii operates Tuesday to Friday, with a 32-hour work week (four 8-hour days), and the company is closed on Mondays. Survey results from the trial: no one reported increased stress with the switch to the 32-hour week; 100% of the team supported the change, citing no delays in work delivery; the team reported improved work-life balance and reduced stress; and company revenue increased. The shift drove communication-process refinement, standard operating procedures for repeatable tasks, and clearer roles and responsibilities.
