About Transport for Greater Manchester

What is Transport for Greater Manchester?

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is the public body responsible for delivering the Bee Network — Greater Manchester's integrated public transport system spanning buses, the Metrolink tram network, active travel routes and future local rail integration. Working on behalf of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the city-region's ten councils, TfGM plans, builds and runs the transport infrastructure that moves millions of people around the UK's second-largest city-region.

Where will I work?

TfGM is headquartered at 2 Piccadilly Place in central Manchester, a short walk from Piccadilly station. Its benefits page states there are "flexible and hybrid working practices in place to support a culture of promoting positive work/life balance" across the organisation.

What is the TfGM team like?

Around 1,100 people across transport planning, engineering, project delivery, data, customer and corporate functions. Glassdoor reviewers rate TfGM 4.1 out of 5 overall with a work-life balance score of 4.5, and 92% would recommend working there to a friend. Engagement is worked at deliberately: TfGM's Best Companies profile highlights its "Brewlette" cross-organisational coffee-roulette programme and "Mindful Monday" yoga sessions, with 80% of staff saying their manager communicates openly and 72% reporting valuable career development experiences.

Work-Life Balance

TfGM ranked #10 Best Not-For-Profit Body to Work For in the UK (Best Companies, November 2025). Its holiday entitlement clears our generous-PTO bar: 28 days holiday per annum plus bank holidays (28 + 8 = 36 total days), rising to 30 and then 32 days after 5 and 10 years' service, with an option to buy additional leave on top. Family-friendly policies are enhanced — the benefits page lists "progressive support around Maternity and Adoption Leave, Paternity leave" — and flexible and hybrid working practices are standard.
