About Trans Lifeline

What is Trans Lifeline?

Trans Lifeline is a trans-led nonprofit with a peer-support hotline and a microgrants program. Its About page calls it "a grassroots hotline and microgrants 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis – for the trans community, by the trans community". Its history page says the hotline launched in 2014 "shortly after Trans Day of Remembrance", the microgrants program joined in 2017 to fund name and ID changes, and an Advocacy Department started in 2022 with its Safe Hotlines Campaign. It states its values plainly: "Our organization is run by trans people, for trans people".

Where will I work?

Trans Lifeline is remote. Its careers page says "We are a fully remote workplace based in San Francisco, CA" and lists "Remote workplace and flexible work hours" among its benefits. Its June 2025 Advocacy Coordinator posting was listed as remote, open to anyone with authorization to work in the United States, and asked for people "able to work remotely with a private workspace". Its careers page named a Communications Coordinator opening on 2026-10-17, but the Idealist link it points to no longer loads, so this profile cannot show a live role.

What is the Trans Lifeline team like?

The careers page lays out how it hires: "Our hiring teams for open positions are at least 50% BIPOC and use evaluation rubrics to reduce implicit bias", "There are no minimum education requirements for any position" and "We do not penalize employment history gaps". It says "We work to make our workplace equitable, accessible, and joyful" and lists "Trauma-informed PTO policies" and "Flexible work hours & break schedule to honor life/work balance". Its pages do not state a headcount.

Work-Life Balance

Its careers page lists a "32-hour work week" among its staff benefits. The Wayback copies show how that arrived: through October 2025 the same list said "Reduction of weekly hours for full-time salaried employees" under "Upcoming Benefits", and by March 2026 it read "32-hour work week". Its June 2025 Advocacy Coordinator posting already stated "Workweek: 4-day, 32-hour full-time schedule" with a salary of "USD $63,000 - $73,000". No page says which day is off or whether pay is unchanged from a five-day week, so this profile makes no full-pay claim and does not name a day. Its crisis hotline answers callers, so ask how hotline and support roles are scheduled against the 32 hours.

Perks and Benefits

The careers page lists a "100% employer-paid group health insurance plan for all staff employed at 28+ hrs/week" and "Employee retirement benefits". The 2025 posting adds "100% employer-paid health insurance for staff and 75% for dependents, 403b match, generous PTO & holidays, stipends for home office and professional development". None of its pages gives a number of vacation days or holidays.
