About Torn Banner Studios

What is Torn Banner Studios?

Torn Banner Studios calls itself "an award-winning independent video game company located in Toronto, Canada", whose "core elements" are "passion and innovation". It "began with a group of mod enthusiasts who dreamed of creating games that needed to exist": the team formed around the Age of Chivalry mod in 2007, released Chivalry: Medieval Warfare in 2012, which "becomes the best-selling Steam game during the week of Christmas 2012", and "launched Chivalry 2 which sold 1M within the first 2 months of launch, across PC, Xbox and PlayStation platforms" in 2021.

Its current projects are Chivalry 2 and No More Room in Hell 2, a co-op action horror game whose Early Access it launched in 2024 "after our acquisition of fellow Toronto team Lever Games". The studio says it is "looking to grow our team – but stay collaborative, indie and agile", and that its people come from "AAA studios such as Ubisoft, EA, Rockstar, Sony, Sega, Bioware, and more", with "an average of 11 years industry experience".

Where will I work?

The Toronto office opened in 2013, "allowing us to open a Toronto office and begin working as a unified team". Today it says "We remain committed to offering a 100% work-from-home option, with in-office options available too." Each of its seven open postings on 2026-10-08 (character rigging and tools, technical art, lighting, production, UI programming, UI design and technical level design) offers a "choice of remote, hybrid, or on-site" and says the role "can be carried out remotely" for candidates who are Ontario or Quebec residents, or willing to relocate to Ontario. It also offers relocation packages and "guidance for immigration".

What is the Torn Banner team like?

It describes itself as "a community": "We believe that through collaboration and mutual respect, we can achieve great things together." The culture page asks for "being open with each other, giving/receiving critical feedback, and not letting a false sense of authority cloud our vision", and promises to "find ways to cater to and best support our teammates and their particular needs as individuals." The company keeps the team close with "a multi-day retreat" and in-person events, and offers an education credit for courses.

Work-Life Balance

Its benefits page lists "6.5 weeks paid vacation: 3 weeks whenever you like, Fridays off in the summer, plus 2 weeks in late December", all seven postings repeat "6.5 weeks paid vacation", and that is 32.5 days before Ontario’s nine statutory holidays. The page lists the summer Fridays among the parts of that 6.5 weeks, beside the three flexible weeks and the late-December break. On schedule it says "While we work primarily on ET hours, we remain committed to a flexible schedule to meet each employees unique situation." The healthcare package includes "100% parental leave top up for 16 weeks".
