About TOPdesk
What is TOPdesk?
TOPdesk is a Delft-based developer of service management software. Its careers FAQ describes the product as "an ITSM (IT Service Management) platform that helps organizations keep their internal services running smoothly", used well beyond IT departments in areas such as HR and facility management. The founders started developing the application in an attic in Delft in 1993, and TOPdesk became a separate company in 1997 (Wikipedia). On 6 November 2026 the company's About page reported "700+" employees and 11 offices worldwide, and its engineering adverts describe a legacy Java and MS SQL platform being modernised on TypeScript, Vue and Azure while the team builds AI agents for service management.
Where will I work?
The headquarters are at Westlandseweg 40 in Delft, with a second Dutch office in Tilburg that a careers story describes as a base for developers. The adverts that carry the flexible-hours wording come from Kaiserslautern and Munich in Germany, Budapest in Hungary and São Paulo in Brazil, and the Netherlands careers site describes a flexible schedule at the Dutch offices too. Working location is hybrid and differs by country. In the Netherlands the office is the home base and the handbook says "we advise you to work from home less than 50% of your TOPdesk time". The German engineering adverts offer the "Option to work up to 50% remotely", the Brazilian advert describes "one in-office day per month", and the Hungarian benefits page says the company is flexible with home-office use but prefers to meet "at least twice a week" in the office.
What is the TOPdesk team like?
The About page says "Our employees care about making an impact, helping people, and learning and improving together." The careers FAQ says the culture rests on trust, responsibility and freedom, and the German adverts describe an informal first-name culture with flat hierarchies. Engineering adverts describe cross-functional teams of back-end, front-end, UX, testing and product people working alongside a UX designer and a product manager. English is the internal working language across the company, although vacancies often also require the local language. Hiring is a screening call followed by two interview rounds for most roles, and the FAQ says candidates hear back within a week of applying.
Work-Life Balance
The Netherlands careers page states "A working week at TOPdesk is between 32 and 40 hours." and puts the schedule in the employee's hands: "Are you an early bird or do you prefer to sleep in? Your day starts between 8:00 and 9:30 a.m." Overtime is discouraged, and extra hours are meant to be balanced out by coming in later or leaving earlier. The German careers page lists a "Flexible working hours model within a modern work environment" and explains that it offers "trust-based working hours", arranged in consultation with the direct supervisor. The German-language sales adverts say "Flexibles Arbeitszeitmodell innerhalb eines modernen Arbeitsumfeldes" (English: a flexible working-time model within a modern working environment), the German engineering and UX adverts say "Flexible working models: Full-time and part-time positions, flexible working hours.", the Hungarian advert lists "Flexible working hours." and the Brazilian one "Flexible working hours and a hybrid model". Annual leave depends on the country: 26 days on a 40-hour contract in the Netherlands, 30 days in the German adverts, and a Hungarian range of 25 to 35 days depending on age. The Dutch employee handbook gives a wider span than that page: you decide your contract hours between 24 and 40 a week, with leave scaled to the contract.
