What is Think Academy Malaysia?
Think Academy is the maths-enrichment brand of TAL Education Group (NYSE: TAL), and its Malaysian site calls it TAL's "first oversea branch". TAL was founded in Beijing in 2003 and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in October 2010, "becoming the first Chinese education institution for primary and middle school students to be listed in the United States." Think Academy teaches mathematics online and in person, has branches in 10 countries and says it engages 5 million students around the world each week. Its Malaysian site links sister branches in the US, UK, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, France and China.
In Malaysia, Think Academy "has established a global teacher hub … to provide the highest-quality courses for our online students", and it also runs local courses from kindergarten to middle school. Its mission is "fostering a passion for mathematics" so that "every child can experience the joy of learning mathematics". The employer is Think Academy International Education Sdn Bhd.
Where will I work?
The Malaysian hub is at Level 9, Tower 2A, Avenue 5, The Horizon, Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur. Online teachers deliver classes on Think Academy's "proprietary in-house learning platform". The part-time student programme adds two office days a week (Tuesday to Friday; the exact days are negotiable). Offline teachers teach in person at the TAL (Xueersi) Kuala Lumpur branch. Other current roles include an event coordinator in Petaling Jaya and remote student-advisor roles that work night shifts, Malaysia time.
What is the Think Academy team like?
The company has three core values: "User First, Always", "All in for Passion" and "Competency Over Scale" — "organizational health matters more than the pursuit of scale." It reports a 4% teacher admissions rate, and its teachers come from universities in China, Malaysia and beyond. Prior teaching experience is not required: "We provide comprehensive training and ongoing guidance from our experienced trainers." Classes usually have 8 to 20 students. Teachers can grow into senior-teacher roles or follow a "Dual Career Pathway" into Event & Marketing, Teaching Management or Recruitment. Think Academy recruits on campus, including at the XMUM Campus Career Fair 2026. The part-time student programme is open to university students only, and offline teachers need both Chinese and English.
Work-Life Balance
Think Academy offers "flexible working hours based on your assigned class schedule". The part-time student programme is two office days a week plus out-of-office class hours. Part-time offline teachers train at least three days a week for their first three months and then teach around three days a week, which may include Saturday or Sunday classes.
