About SystemSeed

What is SystemSeed?

SystemSeed is an independently-owned digital agency that builds open-source platforms for purpose-driven organisations — charities, NGOs, healthcare, education, government and progressive commercial clients. The agency's "For good, at our core" stance is straightforward: "For us, success goes beyond profit. Each year, we donate 10% of our earnings to charity, extending our positive impact far beyond the digital world."

Founded in 2009 to support Concern Worldwide (Ireland's largest charity), SystemSeed has grown into a senior-only team of Drupal and open-source specialists. The /about-us page reports the team has contributed 6,000+ Drupal commits, maintained 50 Drupal modules, and delivered 25 Drupal conference presentations over the agency's history. The team's own open-source LMS — Anu LMS — is the agency's most visible community contribution.

Where will I work?

SystemSeed is fully distributed. The live /about-us page footer states: "Based in the UK, Spain and USA." Wayback snapshots of the /join-us page describe the working setup verbatim: "As a fully distributed company, SystemSeeders are in different countries and communicate in English. We love learning about each other and our different cultures." Team members "Work from your chosen location, either at home or a local coworking space."

What is the SystemSeed team like?

The team is explicitly senior-only. Wayback /join-us verbatim: "Our team is made up exclusively of senior professionals trained in agile methodologies, allowing us to adapt quickly and deliver value efficiently." Self-organisation is a stated principle — "We're self-organizing on all projects. Each of us is an expert in our own fields, and we work in a collaborative and agile way, with minimal oversight."

Weekly all-hands cadence is built in: "Weekly team meeting with all staff, including CEO and CTO." HR is led by Freddie Greig (HR Manager — [email protected]) and the CEO who reviews applications and joins cultural interviews is Anthony ([email protected] per the Wayback /join-us). Open-source belief is treated as a qualification: roles require "Excellent technical skills... belief in open-source philosophy, high standard of professionalism."

Work-Life Balance

SystemSeed runs a four-day working week. The Wayback /join-us page (most recently archived 14 September 2025 before the late-2025 redesign) lists this benefit verbatim: "4 day working week (for real!)" alongside "6 weeks of holiday wherever you are (inc. mandatory Christmas break and any public holidays you wish to take)" and "Flexible working hours with performance judged on delivery, not time spent at your desk."

The live 2026 redesign moved careers content into the /about-us flow and /join-us now redirects there, so candidates should expect to confirm the latest hours and PTO arrangement directly with the company at application stage.
