About Sustainabil-IT
What is Sustainabil-IT?
Sustainabil-IT is a sustainability and technology advisory partner based in Ireland, helping organisations of all sizes accelerate their sustainability journey through digital transformation. Co-founded by Mark and Ana Kane, the consultancy was born out of the Sustainable Digital Transformation programme that Mark delivered for a renewable-energy major and which won the ICMG/Zachman Global Award for Digital Strategy to Execution in 2019. The team offers fractional Chief Sustainability Officer and Chief Information Officer services, alongside a partnership-led approach to what they call "SaaS 2.0" — software with expert recommendations built in.
The company is structured around six pillars of sustainability: strategy, education, data acquisition/automation, monitoring/reporting, compliance (CSRD, CSDDD) and external certification (Ecovadis, ISO, B Corp). Sustainabil-IT is itself a certified Ecovadis partner, aligned with the UN SDGs and targeting B Corp status in 2025. Mark Kane is also a founding faculty member of the Institute of Sustainability Studies, headed by Niall Collins.
Where will I work?
Sustainabil-IT is "proudly a remote-first organisation" — quoting their own values page: "we give people the choice — no mandated days in the office, meet up together with a purpose in mind, not because it's a Thursday!" The HQ is registered in Ireland, and the team works across Ireland, partnering with leading SaaS 2.0 providers including Digitopia, CarbonFit, PulseMarkets, Cognition, GreenTally and Ecovadis. Customer on-sites are done in zero-emissions vehicles where possible, in keeping with the firm's sustainability mantra of "being the change you wish to see in the world."
What is the Sustainabil-IT team like?
The team is small but credentialed. Mark Kane (Co-Founder & CEO) studied economics and finance at UCD and the Smurfit Business School, and spent 13 years at Mainstream Renewable Power — the pioneering renewables firm founded by Dr Eddie O'Connor — before launching Sustainabil-IT. Ana Kane (Co-Founder & Head of Partnerships) leads the partner ecosystem. The wider team includes David Galea (Digital-Led Sustainability / AIHI) and Gita Shah (Senior Sustainability & ESG Consultant).
Five lived values guide the work: Sustainability ("we don't just talk about sustainability, we live it"), Transformation ("being the change we want to see in the world"), Trust ("trust is earned"), Transparency ("we always focus on what is the right thing to do") and Compassion ("we respect each other's different circumstances").
Work-Life Balance
Sustainabil-IT operates a 4-day working week. Quoting their values page: "Our 4-day working week recognises the importance of work/life balance, allowing more time to re-charge and spend quality time with family and friends." The founders frame it as part of the company's broader sustainability ethos — reducing commuter CO₂ through the remote-first policy, while giving the team genuine recovery time. The flexible model means people can choose Mondays or Fridays off depending on what suits them.
