Work-Life Balance
In January 2023, Tobi Lütke launched the "Chaos Monkey" meeting purge, removing 322,000 hours of recurring meetings and making Wednesdays entirely meeting-free company-wide. The policy was reinstated as a permanent ritual with 85% compliance and an internal Slack bot to enforce it. Shopify also offers unlimited PTO, 20 weeks of birthing-parent leave + 8 weeks for the supporting parent at 100% salary, and a 4-week "Intermission" paid sabbatical at 5 years of service.
